Hi, I was wondering if someone can she some insight on this question?

I got a neti pot for x-mas and I got the salt that comes with it

also. Anyways, I use it 2 times a day and when I use it at night it

starts up my allergies. Why is it doing this? Any thoughts would be

greatly appreciated. Thanks, Genevive

Genevive,

Unless your having extreme nasal problems you could be over using it. How many

saline packets do you use at one time.

From my experience I use it only when I feel a cold coming on and it will stop

it from becoming a full blown situation. Or if I've been around someone that has

had a cold to rinse out the sinuses to prevent a possible cold. I use two saline

packets but that is my preference.

As far as allergies have you tried unprocessed honey? It acclimates your body to

the pollens in your area. You need to make sure that it's unprocessed (local bee

keepers usually sale to the Herb shops) for the benefits. It also has to be

honey that is within 100 miles of your home. At first you can take 1-2

tablespoons several times a day for about a week then cut back to once a day.

Again from experience I went from taking two different kinds of allergie meds

AND a steroidal nose spray to not having to take meds at all after I started

doing the honey thing.

Good luck!

I probably have extreme nasal problems. I've had nasal polyps many of

times in the past and got surgery to get them out. My nose gets

stuffy throughout the day every day. At night when I'm sleeping I

have to stuff tissue up my nose because it fills up so bad and if I

blow my nose in the middle of the night my allergies will start up.

It drives me nuts. My allergy pill doesn't work and none of the other

allergy pills work. So I'm trying supplements and multi vitamins and

pro biotics. That's why I started using the neti pot. I use what the

directions on the bottle say. It has a little white plastic spoon in

it and I just use one scoop of the salt that goes with the neti pot

with warm spring water. I like that it gets the junk out of my nose

but hate it when my allergies start. When you say unprocessed honey do

you mean raw honey? I use honey in my tea from the whole foods coop

but I don't think it's raw. Can I use raw honey in my tea? Thanks,

Genevive

Why don't you scale back to just once a day and do that earlier in the

day, not near bedtime, and see how it goes? If that helps, great! If

not, then you can continue on until you figure out what it is. Your

sinuses might just need to drain more earlier in the day.

Are you getting all the water out when you are finished? You usually

need to blow your nose several times. I don't know what salt came with

your neti pot, but I always use sea salt and don't have any problems.

Finally, do you use filtered water for your rinse?

Work your way through, and see if any of that helps. If not, I'm sure

there's plenty more help to be had here.

Genevive,

Yes Raw honey. But I wouldn't put it in tea, I'd eat it straight. Heating it

would kill the enzymes that are needed to work for the allergies.

I will rinse just once a day and see what happens.  The salt that came with says

Neti Pot Salt, 99.99% pure non-iodized salt, no additives or anti-caking agents,

pharmaceutical grade, and under ingredients it says, USP grade sodium chloride.

I mix this with warm spring water.  Am I supposed to rinse a second time with

just water?  And yes I blow my nose way more than once because it keeps dripping

out.  Thanks for your help, Genevive

After you use the neti pot, turn your head every direction - sideways, upside

down, etc -  to let the water drain out. Then blow.
