Guest guest
My mother has 4 compressed disks (Dr. also referred to them as ruptured disk). She is 62 and in a lot of pain. She is in between insurance from retirement so must wait 1 to 1.5 years before she can even think about surgery. We use heat, and she sits and sleeps in a new comfortable chair we got her that goes back and reclines electronically which she loves. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? Guest guest
How about natural anti-inflammatories like fish oils, curcumin, alfafa..... There's a bunch. I just can't think of them off hand. Also for the healing, perhaps calcium, vitamin D, glucosime(sp?) and chrondriton (sp?), Vitamin K, and MSM. You might even try the homeopathic lotion - traumeel. It might help with pain. I think that you are smart for sticking to naturals. The prescription drugs are quite harsh for the digestive system, kidneys, and liver. Hopefully, someone else will chime in with more help. Lynne Sanchez **************New year...new news. Be the first to know what is making headlines. Guest guest
Dee, I have gone thru this myself, and I understand how painful it can be. I was fortunate enough to have an excellent surgeon and the surgery relieved about 90% of the pain. My doc recommoned that I take Omega 3 oils. They reduce the immflamation and swelling around the disks. It's been 2 years and I have been taking high doses of the omega 3 oils daily. (650 mg EPA & 450MG DHA) Nordic Naturals is the only one that I have found that have this high of doses. It keeps me mobil and pain free most of the day. I know that if I miss 3 days (they cost about $40.00 a bottle though) I feel like I'm 100 years old so I know it works for me. Hope this helps and is something she will be able to use. Guest guest
Dee... She needs to alternate between heat and ice. Heat will cause inflammation if it's the only thing used. Heat will bring oxygen rich blood to the area to help heal, but you'll need to use ice to keep it from becoming inflamed. Some kind of decompression will help but you do not mention what area of the spine is involved. ~ Melani Holt ~ Merry Christmas & Happy New Year May the Lord be with you and your family this Holiday Season! : bluebirdees: Fri, 2 Jan 2009 02:12:29 +0000 Compressed/ and/or Ruptured Disks My mother has 4 compressed disks (Dr. also referred to them asruptured disk). Guest guest
First off, " what kind of Dr. " diagnosed her condition? Did she get x-rays and or MRI? --- On Thu, 1/1/09, britebluebees <bluebirdees wrote: britebluebees <bluebirdees Compressed/ and/or Ruptured Disks Thursday, January 1, 2009, 6:12 PM My mother has 4 compressed disks (Dr. also referred to them as ruptured disk). Guest guest
Yes - after failing with a chiropractor who would not do x-rays, she went to a family doctor to see why pain was getting worse and they did do x-rays showing the damage and told her she needed surgery asap. Thank you for taking time to ask :0) , Max <orange_stuff99 wrote: > > First off, " what kind of Dr. " diagnosed her condition? Did she get x-rays and or MRI? > > >
Guest guest
Awesome list, Lynne! I am so thankful for this group of helpers :0) People are giving her prescription painkillers (whole bottles) and it is scaring me to death because when she is in serious pain, she will take too many at once. I can't find them, she won't hand them over, and it doesn't even help so I have no clue why she keeps taking them (well, except desperation, of course). If I can offer another way, I know she utilize it. , chrislynnes wrote: > > How about natural anti-inflammatories like fish oils, curcumin, alfafa..... > There's a bunch. Guest guest
You most likely need an MRI to accurately diagnose that kind disc damage. Just so you know....I had a Dr. tell me I needed a disc fusion, and had a bulging disc....I got an MRI and had a spine specialist read it and examine me....nothing wrong with my back...so 'do' get an MRI because x-rays alone can't tell you about your discs... max --- On Sun, 1/4/09, britebluebees <bluebirdees wrote: britebluebees <bluebirdees Re: Compressed/ and/or Ruptured Disks Sunday, January 4, 2009, 9:21 AM Yes - after failing with a chiropractor who would not do x-rays, she went to a family doctor to see why pain was getting worse and they did do x-rays showing the damage and told her she needed surgery asap.
