You can get it from any Yoga Center from India. Very cheap about Rs 100 for a

metallic neti pot.

Hi,

I use a neti pot. They are becoming much easier to find. Try your

local health food store or you can order them online through many

sites. Try searching on Neti Pot and you will see many options come

up. I found 2 right away on drugstore.com and myvitanet.com.

Most neti pots are ceramic, look like a small genie lamp and cost

less than $15.

It takes a little practice to use one, but once you figure it out it

is really quite easy. Even my children will let me do it for them

when they are congested.

The basic idea is that you are pouring warm salt water into one

nostril and it travels through your sinuses and out the other

nostril. It is very soothing, really helps unclogged blocked sinuses

and helps keep things cleaned out to avoid infection.

Here are some basic instructions:

1. Prepare the saline solution (8 oz of warm water with 1/2 tsp of

coarse salt or 1/4 tsp of fine salt) and fill the neti pot. Hot water

is irritating and dangerous. Cool water is not soothing. If you don't

use the salt you will feel like you have a head full of swimming pool

water - very uncomfortable.

2. Tilt your head to the side over a sink - about the same angle as

laying on a pillow.

3. Insert spout of neti pot gently into the top nostril creating a

seal between the neti pot and the nostril. If it drains out of your

mouth, lower your forehead in relation to your chin. Relax. If you

are calm, the water flows right through. But if you aren't, it just

won't flow. If you keep breathing through your mouth, relaxed, the

water should gently flow through the nose on its own. There's no

forcing it.

4. Raise the neti pot slowly to develop a steady flow of saline

solution through the upper nostril and out the lower nostril.

5. During the process breathe slowly through your mouth.

6. When you're done turn your head up to drain the remaining water

and exhale firmly several times to clear the nasal passages.

7. Reverse the tilt of your head and repeat the process on the other

side.

You will probably have to blow your nose after you are finished and

you should do it at least an hour before going to bed or your might

find your sinuses still draining when you lay down.

One other suggestion for people with nasal allergies - if you have

recently moved to a new place it is good to eat local honey. It

exposes you to all the pollens in your new area and then you wont

have a strong allergic reaction to them anymore.

I used to be miserable around orange blossoms. I started drinking tea

with orange blossom honey every day. Now I can walk through an orange

grove with no problem. I don't need to eat the honey anymore either.

All the best,

Claire
