Pre-Diabetes....

I have a friend who is at risk of becoming diabetic, and he is really

addicted to sugar. I would like to help him, and besides obviously just

getting off sugar, are there herbs that can help with this? I want to send

him some help as soon as possible.

Hi, I take Stevia Powder in my tea and add a little xylitol to it. You only

need a tiny pinch and slightly more of the xylitol. I also make cookies and

cakes using these substitutes. Stevia is totally natural, a herb from Sth

America. It comes in liquid or powder form. In USA it is not allowed to be

callled a sugar substitute. I think they call it a food supplement. Here

in Australia it's a substitute. There is a slight bitterness about it so I

always augment it with the xylitol in cooking. The only thing it won't do

is hold meringues up or make toffee. Aaahh. oh well. Also you can add a

little organic honey or molasses in some recipes. I keep a watch on it.

I've developed some yummy cookies etc. My only vice is a scoop of vanilla

icecream in my piping hot black coffee. :-)

Also cinnamon lowers blood sugars.

Melanie,

I am on statins too and have an incredibly good cholesterol level other than HDL

which is hard to get up there. However, my pre fasting glucose levels are still

considered pre-diabetes despite these facts. I have no history of diabetes in

my family so am sort of an enigma though I am told it is probably genetic. I am

taking chromium picolinate and other supplements as well as watching my diet

which is primarily vegan vegetarian.
