Guest guest
Hi Ann I'm not sure where you live, but health food stores carry goats milk. I am allergic to cows milk so I buy the goat. I work for Trader Joe's we sell it. I also know Whole Food's does too. I would like to give her organic goats milk (not raw, but boiled and in hot cereal) but havent been able to find it; I do see non-organic goats milk in stores though... I was hoping to give her organic goat youghurt too but can't find it. Would truly love to avoid soy and cow's milk (even if organic). I have read/heard so many controversies about organic cow's milk how it contains hormones and so on even when claiming organic..... I still breastfeed (morning and eve) but I don't think she's getting enough vit A, D. I have found organic goat milk powdered (in Europe) so I make her cereal with it or I mix it with rice milk.... I'm running out of the powdered milk so not sure what to make her cereal with now. thanks a lot Ann ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ __ http://mail. Guest guest
Why not raw? It's much healthier. Have you checked for farms in your area? Try http://www.localharvest.org. The vitamins A and D in milk are added synthetic vitamins and won't be in natural milk. Better to get them from foods anyway. You eat vitamin rich foods for both of you, and take both of you out in the sun for a few minutes every day for vitamin D. A good vitamin supplement would be better than the vitamins added to commercial milk. Guest guest
Whatever you do, do not give your baby cow's milk under age one because it can create allergies or even severe reactions. Do you take a good multivitamin in addition to eating foods high in vitamin D? That will help your baby. Guest guest
Ann, Have you given any consideration or research to Almond Milk? It is of course dairy free, lactose and casein free, cholesterol and gluten free, and only 1% fat per serving (8 fl oz). It's an excellent source of calcium and vitamins E & D as well as Vitamin A. You can purchase it either sweetened or not. It may be worth your time to check it out. Guest guest
I have found the goats milk in stores tastes and smells unappetizing-i have moved to the country-and have my own goats -i bought my youngsters up on goats milk and when i returned to the city -i had to change to cow's milk and my daughter dev hearing problems from the mucus in cows milk-i can only suggest that you go to your nearest country town-ask at the post office-as they know everyone if there is a local with a few goats and make an arrangement for them to freeze milk for you in containers that you supply and drive out once every 3-4 weeks and pick up- i freeze alot of mine when i am unsure of how much i'll have due to their pregnacies etc and have found it o.k but don't reuse milk containers-they are going to delete them- due to bacteria ---make sure you supply good quality-food quality and with good seals to avoid contamination. Make sure you steralize the inside of the bucket between each use and place it in a plastic bag-- I will never go back to cow's milk-they are adding all sorts of crap these days---good luck --- On Tue, 10/21/08, Elizabeth Brandegee <lightspirals wrote: Elizabeth Brandegee <lightspirals Re: Cow's milk substitute Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 6:52 AM I can send you a recipe for organic oatmeal milk you can do yourself. I used a lot on second son because I had to stop nursing pretty early. Vit. A & D from milk do not really absorb anyway and are not in balance, so we can discuss that as well Liz , NaturallyMe <anradmand@. ..> wrote: > > > Hi all > > I have a 9 1/2 mos old baby and I would like to know if anyone knows of a good substitute for cow's milk.
