Cranberry extract should do the job. Your health food store should have it.

Also I would think that total tinoc will kill it quick, see if you can get

your hands on some.

Herbal Remedies - UTI's

Funny that there was talk of bladder infections today, since I called

my doctor today, and he said this severe pain I'm having is probably

a infection that is common to get after the bladder surgery I had 9

days ago. The pain has been very very bad the last few days, was

almost gonna go to the ER, never thought it was just an infection. He

said to go in to see the doctor tomorrow. Except I know I will just

be given a prescription for it, and I'm trying to stay away from

medicines! So is there anything natural I can do for it? I can't

drink Cranberry Juice because of the bladder disorder I have. I can

try and go to the health food store and get something tomorrow, if

there is anything that will for sure get rid of this soon!

I will tell you what helped me and FAST!!! I took

fresh garlic, about 2 cloves. I peeled both cloves,

put them in a blender with 1 cup of whole milk organic

yogurt, stoneyfield has large containers and they are

plain, so no sugar. Then I added 1 banana. I blended

this and drank it. It was pleasant tasting and within

20 minutes my pain was gone and the frequent urination

was gone. I drank another the next day and the

infection was gone. It was surprising to me that it

would work so fast and be so effective. I am grateful

to those who have posted in the past of FRESH GARLIC's

healing properties. IT WORKED!!!!

I can't have anything acidic so I couldn't have the cranberry extract

at all. I might try the grlic though, we have some now. Is it safe to

have that much garlic at once though? I'm on a really strict diet and

can't have anything diary, and also can't have bananas, so have any

idea what other things I can put with it to make a shake? I make

blueberry shakes with vanilla rice milk almost everyday, but don't

kno how great garlic would be with that. I have read garlic is good

for a lot of thing, but just not sure how to use it. I have it in

almost everything I have for meals though! So quite a bit, but

probably not two cloves worth! Any suggestions how else I could use

it would be great, thanks!!!

if you're taking it medicinally (and you couldn't pay me to do this

recreationally) just crush the garlic and eat it with a spoon. down the

hatch! it won't be pleasant, so have some water ready for afterwards. milk

would be better for the base, but it sounds like you don't do that. the bit

with the yogurt and the banana is just to make it palatable. generally, by

the way, i recommend as much as four cloves at a time, especially for

warding off flu season nasties.

keep in mind with garlic - it's antibiotic, and it's pretty indiscriminate

about it. make sure to have something probiotic in the weeks following so

much garlic consumption to rebuild your intestinal flora - good

lactofermented kimchi will do the trick, or high-quality kefir (not that

helios crud they sell in the stores), or lactofermented lambic ale...if you

can't do any better then at least take a probiotic supplement.

Rachel, As long as the garlic is fresh, i.e. not

cooked or, dry, or already chopped up, you can use it

with any fruit combinations. I tried the bananas and

it tasted so good, thats how I get my children to take

garlic if they become sick. Also, for a day or two,

two cloves of garlic should be fine for most adults.

Up to five cloves of garlic at a time have been taken

safely in two studies that I read, but for theraputic

purposes all of what I read says 1 clove a day is

average. I started with 2 clives because I wanted to

flood my body with allicin, that is what makes garlic

effective against germs, fungi, and viruses. I only

took it for 2 days and then I stopped. That is all it

took. I had garlic breath for about 3 days after I

stopped, but my symptoms never came back.

Why could you not take cranberry juice? You said because of a bladder disorder, how could the juice harm your bladder?

Garlic does not work the same way as antiboitics do. They don't kill everything, just the bad stuff.

Fresh garlic took care of mine too, alto I just use one clove at a time. I just chop it up finely, put in a spoon, pour honey over, and turn it upside down into my mouth. Apple cider vinegar and honey in water is also very helpful.

I have read all the responses and let me clear up a few things.

Cranberry DOES not cure UTI's. Cranberry can only prevent them.

Garlic has natural anti-biotic properties. However they are mild and

are useful only for mild infections. I would suggest the following:

Cranberry: to prevent the infection from getting any worse.

Oil of Oregano: Very powerful natural anti-biotic.

Nutribiotic: also called citricidal it is a natural antibiotic.

Goldenseal: Natural antibiotic

Use any of the last three that you can find. Cranberry in my opinion

is a must.

Hope this helps,

James

Sad to say there was no infection!!! A forum of mine really had me

convinced thats what it was. So now I'm totally stumped whats wrong!

I figure it is probably my Interestitial Cystitis, my bladder

disorder, but can't figure out why it is in so my pain. The reason I

can't have cranberry juice the acid in it will make the pain far

worse! See this bladder disorder I have is where when acid gets in

the bladder, the bladder wall is weak and it makes it bleeds, which

causes bladder pain and urination problems. My doctor described it as

my bladder wall being sunburnt. Therefore, I'm on a diet trying to

avoid all acid as possible. I still don't exactly know a ton about

it, or how to explain it. If anyone is interesting in seeing more of

what it is go to www.ic-network.com

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll have to remember these ideas if I

ever do come up with an infection. Right now I need to figure out

what is causing this pain and try and get it better!

Hi Rachel,

I hope you feel better soon. I would still take the

garlic for a few days. If you have to chew on a whole

clove and then drink water, do it. Maybe blend some

garlic cloves with apples in a blender. The garlic has

some anti fungal properties and you bladder may have

some fungal irritation that is making it so hurtful.

Please try it. If it does nothing to help, it sure

wont hurt you other than your tastebuds maybe.... In

addition try drinking some tea. This is my recipe:

3 Cups of water

1 teaspoon of cinnamon bark

3 whole cloves

and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

heat this for 5 minutes and then let it sit until it

cools enough to drink. I pour mine through a stainless

steel strainer into my cup and drink it. It is

delicious! Plus it has the following helpful

properties:

Cloves and cinnamon have anti fungal, anti bacterial

properties... Dentist used cloves to numb and clean

mouth illness before antibiotics came along.

Cayenne pepper stops bleeding. It is very helpful in

any bleeding problems. At 1/2 teaspoon, cayeene is

mild. If you need more, you can drink more cups of tea

to get more cayenne into your system. I drink this tea

sometimes all day, about 15 to 20 cups if I feel achy

or having menstrual problema and it helps me, plus it

tastes good to me... Not too hot in pepper and just

spicy enough to wow me.

I have helped several of my customers with IC. The bladder wall is

iritated and usually does not heal. You are right, acid will cause

pain. Here are the two herbs I have used to help my customers.

1) Marshmallow root capsules: has high amounts of mucilage, which is

a soothing form of fiber.

2) Devil's Claw: This herb has very good anti inflammatory

porperties. You can use this withthe Marshmallow or anything there

is inflammation.

Hope this helps,

  • 4 years later...

My mother in law has been in a nursing home for 3 years, and the biggest

issue

(outside of her alzheimers) are the UTI's she keeps getting.

we are blaming it on to her low fluid intake. The cna's feel guilty for

not getting her to drink more.

I keep telling them that she always said she hated to drink water her

entire life.. and just wouldnt do it. She barely drinks enough to keep a

bird alive.

I have also told them they can not 'fix' her. She never was a good

drinker and she sure can not be changed at this age.

good luck to you.

If you can get her to drink a glass of cranberry juice everyday, the

UTIs will subside, good luck.

I would also not forget that the likelihood of her receiving improper

hygienic cleansing might be a distinct possibility. Its a sad reality that

the caliber of employees ion such institutions are not necessarily the

highest pickings on a tree.

Does she have a Foley catheter? If so, the area may not be properly
