weird pain when taking a large breath

MY GP is stumped, and it's beginning to worry me a little. I have

carpal tunnel in my right wrist and thumb. It is exacerbated at this

time of year (it's spring in New Zealand) when I am working in my

vegetable garden pulling weeds (think of the motion you would do,

repeatedly, when pulling weeds). I have noticed this past week or so

that whenever I take in a deep breath of air (sighing or yawning), a

pain shoots through my wrist and thumb! What causes this to happen,

and is it a cause for concern? I am very puzzled by it.

Thank you

I don't know, but if I had it I would ask my chiropractor.

Andrea,

my friend with Parkinson's has a lot of pain in her thumb AND

trouble speaking. The connection: The LUNG meridian.

It goes through the wrist and ends in the thumb.

Take a look here:

http://www.acuxo.com/meridianPictures.asp?point=LU1 & meridian=Lung

That website totally blows me away.

You might consider acupuncture, or get a copy of " Acupressure's Potent

Points " by Michael Reed Gach.

It has been around for at least 20 years and should be widely

available. It will tell you how to use acupressure on yourself. No

previous knowledge necessary.

Vitamin B6 is also supposed to be helpful for carpal tunnel.

Keep pulling those weeds, the world needs more farmers!

Suggest you see a chiropractor; in sighing or yawning, there is movement in

Cervical2 from the TMJ (opening the mouth/tensing the upper neck).

Subluxations in C2 can cause " Carpal Tunnel Syndrome " because the nerve bundle

to the wrist can become impinged at this point.

Thus, what you describe could easily be related to what is more simply put as

bones out of alignment in the neck.

The chiropractor should give you a full check out because there could be

something else that is triggering C2 deep in your lower/lumbar spine or pelvic

alignment

This is just a suggestion but when you take a deep breath you are probably

expanding the rib cage which is affecting your spine and there are nerves in the

upper spine that go to the arms and hands. I have had two upper back injuries

and the pain can radiate into the chest cavity and arms and hands. I can't

think of any other reason why the pain would radiate to your arm and hand.

I wanted to thank everyone for their replies on this one. Very

interesting, especially the lung meridian thing. That's EXACTLY

where the pain is! My lungs have been an issue for many years, and

every alternative therapies practitioner I've ever seen has asked

about them (reflexologists, massage therapists, naturopath,

chiropractors). I had pleurisy about 15 years ago, and I think that

may have caused some scarring, and I also have scoliosis with a

slight c-curve of the spine which affects my ribs' ability to hold a

correction for more than a few weeks (so I seem to live at the

chiropractor's!).

I actually have that book, Ieneke, but I've never been sure how to

use it (it was given to my husband years ago). I am paying more

attention to it now, that's for sure! That website with the

acupuncture information is really interesting, thank you!

Cheers
