Guest guest
I am coming to the conclusion that bipolar really is a variety of symptoms caused by a few things and mostly blood sugar problems...Mania seems to be controled with normal blood sugar levels...Any feed back? Guest guest
Joanne, I have an adopted daughter that has been diagnosed with just about every mental condition you can muster. Each counselor, psych doc had their own take on her conditions and believe me, she has many issues. Right now she is being treated for Bipolar with Borderline Personality Disorder behaviors. I have taken her off (to the best of my ability), white flour, sugar, gluten, all starches and increased her daily consumption of fresh organic fruits and vegetables throughout the day. Proteins come from poultry, seafood and whey. These changes have made no differences in her behaviors or mood swings. She does not like taking the meds, and I can understand that but they do make a difference and since she threatened to kill me, for now, she must stay on meds. Guest guest
If that were the case, it would have made world headlines by now and there would be no need for state and private mental hospitals. Bipolar runs in my family and paranoid schizophrenia in my ex's. I can attest that I have tried all the diet restrictions and supplements suggested over the past four decades for my loved ones to no avail; and not in the short term, but long term. NOTHING! Mental illness is a chemical imbalance in certain areas of the brain. They are coming closer to understanding the " how " but not the " why " of why these mental and personality disorders hit some people and not others. One thing rings true and that is that it has now become genetically linked since some families tend to have more cases than others. Wouldn't it be nice if we could cure all mankind's ills through just a change in diet? Some we can, but we can't blanket it for all illness because it just doesn't work. deborah >>> http://thebamboojungle.blogspot.com/<http://thebamboojungle.blogspot.com/> >>> Joanne wrote: I am coming to the conclusion that bipolar really is a variety of symptoms caused by a few things and mostly blood sugar problems...Mania seems to be controled with normal blood sugar levels...Any feed back? Guest guest
Just curious, Maybe trying Homeopathy would help. It can help with genetic disorders. Might be worth a try. It is a great place to start. I always recommend starting there in ADD. For SOME people, it may be the only change they needed. You might say those people suffer from hypoglycemia causing bipolar or ADD symptoms. For others, other interventions may be needed, like allergy treatment and including sometimes allopathic drugs. There is a great tendency among experts to see the particular piece of the puzzle that they have contributed as the whole solution. I call it the " nothing but " syndrome. For instance in the ADD world Dr. Doris Rapp, whose work with allergies is absolutely wonderful, then draws the conclusion that ADD is nothing but untreated allergies. To come back to blood sugar management: totally necessary, but it may not be enough. Guest guest
When I changed my diet from the standard 40% whole grains, 20 protein 20 fats to 40 % raw vegetables and fruits (carbs), 30% nuts (fats and protein), and only 10% grains (Only gluten free quinoa and amaranth seed) 10-5% animal protein (mainly egs, fish, pultry, and wild game in that order), my symptomes of " mania " dissapeared within a couple of months. I also lost 30 pounds in 4 months. Key with this: I took omega three (DRA) I walked every day at least 30 min (exercise) I ate no sugar, candy, space food, packaged food, fries ,coca cola, crappy chocolate. I ate no gluten (bread, pasta, starches, sandwiches), animal protein, and also I limited GMOs (Genetically modified organs). In the sector of mania, I controled my paranoia and negative thinking with concentrative breathing meditation. Today I am very fit and healthy, and don't take any medications or suffer from any apparent conditions. actually I feel as if I am operationg on a higher scale of mind than the average person. There is a lot that we have to take into consideration, the proliferation of chemicals in the envirmonet, crappy media that keeps people in constat fear... Lack of a support structure which is family (it has been trully lost recently), lack of a sence of community (most people in city enviroments lack this I would sense). And a lack of self relience htat arises due to too much dependancy on the system. (just think what would you do without the gast stations, the hospitals, and without electricity and potable water. I'm not saying its wrong, it's just that its too uncomfortable. We really have to see where we need to improve and take the propper measures to do so. I am so with you. Balancing blood sugar should be step one in any treatment of mental illness. Nutrition and lifestyle measures first, drugs only as a last resort if nothing else helps. Just today the blog surf took me to some blogs by people with mental health issues. Most of the talk that I saw was about drugs. SIGH. Would it be OK if I quoted your post? People need to hear this.
