I suffer with anxiety/panic attacks and I am taking Passion Flower.  I

understand Holy Basil is good as well, although it didn't really work for me -

also, the B vitamins are good as well...

There is a great book by Rosemary Gladstar, called " Family Herbal " that

I often refer to. She has a whole section called ~Taming Stress and

Anxiety~ that you may find helpful. There are many herbs to tone and

strenghten the nervous system to better deal with stress and anxiey.

Some that come to mind are lemon balm, oatstraw, valerian, hops,

chamomile, skullcap.

Best to you,

Connie

As a herbalist I get this question often so I created a page with

information on natural alternatives to panic attacks and anxiety.

Anxiety and panic attacks

How to deal with them naturally

Many people deal with anxiety disorders, including disorders such as

obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), acute stress disorder, post-traumatic

stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Many factors can contribute,

trauma, chemical sensitivity, caffeine, heredity, drugs, alcohol and lifestyle

choices. As an Herbalist this is one condition many people consult me about.

People have been able to manage their anxiety attacks with natural alternatives

and feel much better. When using natural remedies give the program time, and

also work on diet and lifestyle, along with taking your supplements. Work

closely with your doctor and/or herbalist.

Panic disorder is about twice as common with women as men. Women tend to deal

with stress differently.

Herbs and other natural supplements have been known to help many control panic

attacks and other anxiety disorders. When dealing your health through natural

alternatives you want to get to the root of the problem which usually is lack of

nutrients, stress and toxins in the body.

Natural remedies for panic attacks would be to start with a

a good colon cleanse, a good start to any natural program.

Emotional symptoms:

- Having a fear and excessive worry

- Feeling uneasy

- Becoming restless and edgy

- The feeling of hyper-vigilant

- Feeling confused

- Lacking concentration

- Hot flashes

- Nausea or gastrointestinal distress

- Chills or blushing

Three great herbal supplements for panic attacks:

1. GABA Plus

- Supports brain and nerve metabolism.

- Normalizes nervous system function

- Promotes a greater sense of relaxation and peace.

(Take regularly, twice a day)

2. Stress pack

- Provides nutrients that help the body deal with physical and emotional stress.

- Contains generous amounts of B vitamins that are essential to proper

nervous-system function.

3. Super Omega 3

- Important to the health of our cells, heart, brain and body.

Other natural alternatives for panic attacks and anxiety:

- Aromatherapy

- Practice breathing exercises

- Yoga

- Relaxation techniques

- Laughter

- Get a massage

- Avoid caffeine

- Eat a healthy, balanced diet

- Eat right for your blood type

- Exercise to release stress.
