Guest guest
Feeling immediately ill from 5-HTP makes me wonder if you have a food intolerance to whatever the manufacturer used as a filler. Long term use of 5-HTP by itself will lead to reduced dopamine levels. It is helpful to take tyrosine for anyone taking 5-HTP. About eight or ten times more milligrams of the amino acid tyrosine than 5-HTP is recommended. Cysteine, selenium and folate along with 5-HTP & tyrosine are also needed. The amino acid cysteine because the body will use more of it, selenium & folate because those are cofactors. If you find a different brand that doesn't make you ill, try a small dose 3 or 4 times a day. If there is no difference after a week, increase the dose. It takes time for neurotransmitters to stabilize. Once things improve, it is very likely that the amount taken can be reduced considerably. Things like anemia & hypothyroidism are but two things that can throw off neurotransmitters. A visit to a functional medicine doctor to eliminate these sorts of things can also be very helpful. , " evergreengarden " <evergreengarden wrote: > > This made me ill right away. I read about 5-htp tried it and loved it. I would suggest it to anyone who is suffering from over-stress, anxiety, edginess. I did not alter my mood or energy level in anyway, it just really helped to take the edge off. I slept better and felt as though I was able to think more rationally.. I did not take it for long period of time ,I would usually take one capsule every other day. I purchased it at my local vitamin shop, > > On a side note I had a professor for physiological psychology who said that years ago tryptophan was sold over the counter as a mood stabilizer...then along came zoloft and the like and big pharma realized they could make a lot more money off of those mind altering drugs than they could off of turkey horomones. Guest guest
I had a strong negative emotional and mood reaction the 2 times I took it. I don't see worth enough to go into details now. I'm not going to try again. On the other side, Tryptophan always helped me sleep without any side effect at all.
