Need help with scar tissue/pain and numbness after surgery on hand...

Hello,

It's been a while since I've check messages or posted due to hand

surgery. I made the mistake of going to a hand surgeon after cutting the

palm of my hand badly on a piece of glass, and going to urgent care to

have it stitched up. I was having a lot of pain etc after and the area

where the Urgent care stitched it up was coming apart and causing a lot

of scar tissue (visably).. Now I didn't care what it looked like, but it

hurt. So I was referred to a hand surgeon, and he said I should have it

cut back open to make sure there was no glass or that a tendon or

ligament in my hand had not been cut.

My gut told me to let it go, since after they removed the stitches my

hand did not hurt as much, except when touching or bumping the

previously stitched area. However, everyone told me I should have the

surgery just in case there was glass in there, so that later on I would

not have a problem and be sorry I didn't take care of it when it was

fresh..

WELL>>>>> I had the hand surgery over a month ago and I still do not

have any feeling in a couple of my fingers, I have MORE pain now than I

did before, I have two lumps on each side of where they re-cut the

incision that are very tender, my knuckles ache now and my hand gets

very stiff, even though I am doing all the stretching and massaging of

the hand as I was told to do, and it is difficult to open jars etc.

In other words my hand is in worse shape now that I had the surgery than

before. I believe the bumps on each side of the incision is scar tissue

UNDER the skin ( the top you only see the pinkness where it is still a

little inflammed) and a very small scar. The outside looks great, but

that was not my concern in the first place, it was the pain and concern

of the glass still being in the hand. The doc that did the hand surgery

said he removed a lot of scar tissue when he was in there looking for

the glass (whch he found none)....However, now I feel the scar tissue in

bumps in the palm of my hand and it also makes it hard to make a fist

due to not being able to bend it properly because of the bumps etc. The

incision was right in the center of my palm just below my fingers where

there is usually soft flexible tissue. However, mine is not flexible

anymore and it is painful.

I was hoping that maybe someone would have an idea on what I could do to

help relieve the pain as well as reduce the scar tissue and the numbness

to my fingers (which I never had before the surgery).... My whole hand

aches all the time and I get sharp pains in it if I bump it or pick up

something wrong. I feel as if there isn't the strength I had, and it's

not because I'm not doing the physical therapy it's because of the

numbness, it feels I do not have a grip on the things I try to pick up.

Any suggestions would be very welcome at this point. I have tried to

call the doctors office several times since these symptoms are not going

away as they said they would, and they always call during the times I

say I will not be home. They leave a message and say to call back if I

have any other questions, but they don't answer the ones I've left for

them. I call back and then they do not call me at all.

I'm getting very frustrated and nervous that by having the surgery I

made a big mistake.... But, I can't do anything about it now. I can only

try to resolve the issue on my own with the help of a group like this...

I would appreciate any input you have and suggestions, on what I can do

to get the use of my hand back without the pain and aching in the finger

joines ( all knuckles) and the numbness in the fingers..

Thank you for your time. Sorry for the length of this, but felt I wantd

to explain what happened so you would have a clear picture as to why I

am having these problems. I feel as if it's partly due to the scare

tissue that this doctor caused when re-opening my hand and supposedly

removing scar tissue from what the urgent care did while stithing it up.

I look forward to hearing from you... If you would like to contact me

off group, please specifiy in the subject line that it is about the

scarring and hand surgery or that you are from Alternative Answers. So

it does not go to my spam, or if it does I will know that you are

responding to my request.

Health and Blessings

My first question is which fingers. If it is the 1st 2 and the thumb

then we need to look at the radial nerve. if it is the last 2 nerves

the ulnar nerve. That is usually a concern with carpal tunnel

syndrome only once the nerves reach the hand they branch. It has

been a month so that is good that you have some feeling back. The

time frames very on healing time. There are many things you can do

for the scar tissue from a manual technique called Graston, a

chiropactic technique called ART to many different scar tissue creams

and lotions that are out there.

Nerves can be interferred with through swelling and scar tissue

mostly. Time for the swelling in the hand is needed to reduce the

pressure on the nerve. Once that happens information will start

flowing. This can take a couple 3 months to fully heal again.

Keep trying with the doctor write down the questions you have. You

may need to make a follow up appointment to get them all answered.

Most doctors will not leave information on a answering machine. So

do not expect that.

Nature Sunshine should have some of those types of cream. Comfrey is

one that should help with all types of healing a cream works well

there.

use products that support nerve regrowth such as the B complexes as

well as Evening Primrose with the GLA in it.
