August 2008 Highlights at The Caritas Spiritist Center

 

The August theme for our Exploring Spirit weekly gatherings is The

Mystery of Consciousness. " More than anything else, the future of

civilization depends on the way the two most powerful forces of history,

science and religion, settle into relationship with each other. "

(Alfred North Whitehead) This month, we will explore the realm of

consciousness and ways in which it is the interface between science and

spirituality. Material for our theme will be based on physicist Peter

Russell's book, From Science to God.

 

The weekly topics will be:

¨ Monday, August 4: The Meaning of Light in Physics and

Spiritual Experience

¨ Monday, August 11: Consciousness as God

¨ Monday, August 18: Transcending the Materialist Mindset

¨ Monday, August 25: Personal and Collective Awakening

 

Exploring Spirit takes place every Monday from 6 to 7:30 PM, and is open

to all. It consists of a brief introduction of the weekly topic, open

discussion, followed by cleansing passes administered by the healing

staff. Refreshments are served after the gathering. Take advantage of

this opportunity to build continuity, depth and community as you enrich

your personal spiritual journey. This weekly gathering is open to all

and always FREE.

 

· Tai Chi Class: Caritas has a Tai Chi instructor! Greg

Adelman will teach a weekly class in which students will learn:

¨ The first 3rd of the Chen Man Ching's Short Form

¨ Warm up and breathing exercises

¨ Qi Gong exercises

¨ Introduction to Push Hands (interactive Tai Chi)

The class will meet Mondays from 5 – 5:50 pm, beginning August 4.

$5 donation

 

· A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle is the subject of a weekly

drop-in study group. We ran a study group on this book when it first

came out, but by " popular demand " (largely due to the recent,

wonderful online series by Oprah Winfrey), we're doing it again!

This profoundly spiritual work is sure to spark new insights and

personal discoveries as we read and discuss it together. Every

Thursday, 5:30 - 7 PM. $5 donation

 

Global Transformation: Pluto Moves into Capricorn: Joy Om presents this

media presentation. Pluto – Lord of the Underworld and Hidden Riches

– will be touching and transforming the lives and events of the

planetary whole for the next 16 years. The passage of Pluto through the

sign of Capricorn, representing materiality, structure, power and

authority, will bring about deep transformational changes for

individuals, governments, nations, the economy and the workplace. It

will also herald new innovations in health, energy, and the environment.

Special Movie Presentation: The Global Brain/The White Hole in Time:

This presentation includes two videos by author and physicist Peter

Russell. The Global Brain is a 35-minute presentation, exploring the

idea of the Earth as an integrated self-regulated living organism

(Gaia), and considering what function the human race may be playing in

this system. In The White Hole in Time, Russell proposes that we stand

on the threshold of a major leap in evolution, as significant as the

emergence of life itself, and the essence of this leap is inner

spiritual development. Moreover, he maintains that it is only through

such a shift in consciousness that we will be able to manage

successfully the global crises now facing us. Friday, August 15, 7 PM.

Tools for Shifting Global Consciousness: Carol Fitzpatrick is a seer

whose passion is spiritual activism. Learn how individual and group

energy patterns are formed and how you can change absolutely anything

grassroots wake-up call into an international movement. Fitzpatrick's
