Guest guest
Hello, Does anyone know anything to replace salt? I have been using sea salt for a long time, but probably due to the health problems I'm having now (ovarian cysts and and that my kidneys are not working at full, I see that omitting salt helps me reduce water retension. However, I would like to find some replacement. Thanks, Rena

Guest guest
Avoid the salt substitute, potassium chloride, if your kidney functioning is compromised. Potassium is usually good for the body and lowers blood pressure but in combination with reduced kidney functioning or certain diuretics it can be very harmful. Lemon juice will add a zing to food that has an almost hint of salt. Vinegar and vinegar powder can also have the same effect but again caution needs to be made if you are having any gastric problems. I have included some links to places that have low sodium products. They are more expensive but will also protect your health and kidneys. Best of luck and hopes for long and good health to you. http://saltwatcher.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi http://www.healthyheartmarket.com/index.asp http://www.lowsodiumcooking.com/free/IngredientSources.htm http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/shophome.html The above link is for Penzeys Spices and they have a number of no salt herb and spice blends that are just wonderful. Guest guest
Home : About Pleasoning Frequently Asked Questions? 1) How do you use PLEASONING? You can use any of our seasonings in place of salt and pepper when cooking or at the table. They are good on eggs, french fries, cottage cheese and hamburgers. Use them in meatloaf and casseroles, on chicken or other poultry, beef, pork, lamb, game, fish and seafood. Try them on vegetables, in salads and soups. They even help add flavor to those frozen dinners. PLEASONING gives you gourmet flavor made simple! We even have some recipes to give you some ideas! 2) How does the sodium content of PLEASONING blends compare to other seasonings and salt? ALL of our seasoning blends have much less sodium than table salt and most seasoning blends, we even have some that are sodium free!As a comparison: 1/4 teaspoon of " All-Purpose " PLEASONING contains 130mg sodium, while the same serving of table salt contains 590mg sodium (the recommended daily sodium intake is 2400mg). A serving of " All-Purpose " PLEASONING has 78% less sodium than the same size serving of table salt. Our seasoning blends range in sodium content from 0mg up to 230mg. 3) Why is salt listed first on your labels? The ingredients on PLEASONING labels are listed by weight, not volume. Salt is usually listed first because it is heavier, not because there is more! By volume the herbs and spices take up more space than salt because they are light and fluffy! 4) Why don't you list what herbs and spices you use on your labels? The government does not require the listing of the various spices used in our PLEASONING blends. Each of our seasonings has its own secret blend of herbs and spices! 5) Do any of your products use Potassium Chloride? NONE of the blends of PLEASONING contain Potassium Chloride. 6) What is the Tricalcium Phosphate in some of your products? The Tricalcium Phosphate used in some of our blends is used to prevent caking. It is used in such small amounts that when tested at a lab it shows N/A for phosphates. 7) Why do you use MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)? Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) helps enhance the flavor of your food. Several of our seasonings use small amounts of MSG (remember " Accent?). When you eat cold cuts, hot dogs, certain snack foods and canned soup, you consume a much greater amount of MSG than any amount used in our blends. 8) Do you have gluten/wheat free blends? Yes we do! We CAN'T completely eliminate on our labels the grains that we may use in our blends, but we do recognize that gluten and wheat are a common problem with many of our customers! The following PLEASONING blends REGARDLESS of what is listed on the label (old labels listing ingredients vs. new) is safe to use as far as these two items: " Original " , " Pork " , " Italian " , " Taco " , " Chili " , " Pizza " , " Cinful " , " Lemon Pepper " , " Greek " , " Garlic Salt " , Garlic Salt w/Oregano " , " Herbal " , " Mini-Mini Salt " , " Chicken " , " Caution " , " Garlic Garlic " , " Lena's Uffda " , " Cinnamon " and " Pepper Pepper " PLEASONINGs! 9) What's PLEASONING's background? PLEASONING has been in business since 1952. We are a small family-owned business. Frank Italiano, the creator, retired in 1999 at the age of 83! His daughter Kathy and son-in-law Paul now own the business, Lenore (Frank's wife) still runs the office. 10) Since you are a manufacturing company, do you offer tours? PLEASONING has over 100 bus tours every year. We give a hour-long tour for groups of twenty (20) or more, which includes a taste testing and a tour of our plant. Reservations are required. More information on tours is under Customer Service. 11) I first used PLEASONING in a restaurant, is there any way to buy a small amount from you? Yes! We are a very specialized product. PLEASONING is available in some stores throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, but may not be available in your local grocery store, so most of our business is done through phone orders, mail orders and internet orders. Our toll-free number is 1-800-279-1614. PLEASONING will ship your order within 48 business hours of receipt. PLEASONING has an outlet store located at 2418 South Avenue, La Crosse, WI. The store is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 PM. (Plant production hours). The PLEASONING found on restaurant tables is the All-Purpose PLEASONING. 12) Is there a difference between " All-Purpose " PLEASONING and " Original " PLEASONING? This is the MOST frequently asked question, and we probably should have placed this in the #1 slot! PLEASONING was first marketed in 1952. Frank's (see creator) inventiveness didn't stop there. He came up with another all-purpose seasoning that we now call " All-Purpose " PLEASONING. The first original PLEASONING was taken off the market for many years. Many of our loyal customers requested the first blend, so we reintroduced " Original " PLEASONING in 1988. What's the difference? They are two totally different blends! " Original " PLEASONING does taste saltier than " All-Purpose " PLEASONING, but both are used the same way (in place of salt and pepper). " All-Purpose " PLEASONING has become our most popular PLEASONING blend and is found on restaurant tables all over the Midwest, sold through mail order in all fifty states and several foreign countries! Let your taste buds decide! Pleasoning Gourmet Seasonings specializes in spices and all purpose seasonings. They carry a variety of seasonings that include bbq seasonings, cajun seasonings, chicken seasonings, chili seasonings, and game seasonings. Pleasoning also carries many of todays much used seasonings like garlic salt seasonings, garlic seasonings, lemon pepper seasonings, lite salt seasonings, and pepper seasonings. All of Pleasonings blended seasonings are some of the most sought items around. The bar-b-que spice seasonings, steak seasonings, seafood seasonings, taco seasonings, and pizza seasonings are perfect for that family gettogether that you are planning.
