Well I have not long got back from my Dr. Appt regarding my recent blood

test and as I expected it was to do mostly with Cholesterol which is far too

high but also my Dr is more concerned about my liver due to some slightly

abnormal results with that. Everything else is fine thank goodness.

My Dr. has put me onto a liver detox diet for the next week, consisting only

of water, fruits, soup and salad. After I have completed this I then have

to go onto Lipitor for 3 weeks initially and if there are no major problems

with that then I will have to continue taking Lipitor for awhile to get my

levels back down to a more normal range. He does believe that my

cholesterol level is more " hereditary " than dietary as I am already pretty

conscious of diet and get lots of exercise, etc.

Although I'm not real happy with the idea of taking Lipitor I understand the

reason why and will take it as long as I am required to and then hopefully

getting off it again once my levels have dropped. After 3 months of Lipitor

I am to have another blood test and discuss further options.

So I guess I better get used to soup, lol and lots of water!

Cheers

Lyndall

After much thought about it, as well as a lot of research on the subject of

cholesterol, statins etc I have decided that I am NOT going to take the

Lipitor once I have finished my detox diet. There are just too many side

effects to be concerned about and baring in mind that I already have a

struggling liver and heart problems why on earth would I run the risk of

taking Statin drugs?

So I am going to get myself some Red Yeast Rice with CoQ10 for the

cholesterol and Milk Thistle for my liver and as well as that I will change

my diet to one for lowering cholesterol. My Dr. can do another blood test

in a month or 3 if he wants but I am definitely not running the risk of

taking Lipitor or any other Statin drug.

If anyone has any better ideas of what I can do to lower my cholesterol then

I am happy to hear them!

Cheers

Lyndall,

I agree. There's no way anyone is forcing a Statin drug on me

either.

As for lowering your chlosterol, I am sure your research showed that

there is no connection between high cholresterol and heart disease.

I remember one report of a town somewhere in Europe where they all

had high chlosterol and relatively few heart problems. I doubt I'd

worry about it. I, personally, would eat whole foods and grains,

organic when I can find it, keep my weight down ..... and not give it

a second thought.

Yes Cookie I had indeed read about that " connection " or lack of it I should

say. I've purchased the Red Yeast Rice with CoQ10 and the Milk Thistle tabs

so now I just have to wait for them to arrive.

In the meantime I am just continuing to watch that I remain on a low fat

diet and keep my food intake down. I do love my food so keeping the amount

I eat down to an appropriate level isn't easy for me,lol but I'm prepared to

do that if it means staying off statins. Not that I'm grossly overweight

anyway, probably 20lbs (10 kgs) thereabouts and I already am a very active

person and keep myself pretty fit and healthy most of the time.

My mother was on Lipitor but had side effects so they put her on

Simvastin. Now she's having leg pains and side effects with it, too.

I'd be very interested in finding out what alternative health

alternatives others have used with success. I'm currently looking for

things on the Net for her and, if we find something that helps her,

I'll let you know.

I've already been taking fish oil ( 2 tabs in the morning) for quite some

time as well as using flax seed (whole) as an additive to my breakfast

cereal. Maybe I wasn't taking enough of either of them?
