Guest guest
I want to start by saying that this email is not intended to offend anyone's political leanings, rather it is to inform the group of an Autism awareness opportunity. The Democrats are having meetings all over the country that anyone can attend and have input into the platform. Now, we have a golden opportunity to make Autism a political priority. I don't know if the Republicans are doing anything similar, but please post if they are. I know most of us are so busy that attending a meeting could be difficult, but if you think that you could eke out a little time to attend one of these meetings, it could have a big impact. My experience has been that most politicians (and the general public) are still fairly ignorant about Autism Spectrum Disorders, and if they know anything about the topic, it is typically just the talking points from Autism Speaks. I mean no offense to Autism Speaks, but I feel it is vital that those in power hear from parents/families about what their challenges are, what support services are needed, what treatments are helpful and the discrimination that takes place. So, if you can spare any time to attend a platform meeting, here is the email that I received about these events. Peace be with you!---Nicole Nicole -- Help shape the Democratic Party's Platform for ChangeEvery four years, the Democratic Party assembles a platform that outlines the party's position on a number of issues. Traditionally, the drafting of the platform is not open to ordinary people. This year, that's going to change. For two weeks in July, people all across America will hold Platform Meetings in their own communities to discuss the issues and share their input. The outcome of these meetings will be reviewed by the Drafting Committee as it creates the final Platform. No political experience is required. Your thoughts and experiences are all that matter, and they will shape a platform that -- like this campaign -- is owned by the people. Sign up to host or attend a Platform Meeting in your neighborhood: barackobama.com/listening This year, ordinary people like you will gather in their homes, community centers, places of worship, and even coffee shops to discuss the issues that matter to them and help decide what should be at the heart of the Democratic platform for change. The input we get from these meetings will help shape the platform at the Democratic Convention in August. Platform Meetings are a great way to connect with fellow supporters and help write the next chapter in the history of the Democratic Party. We'll make sure you have all the resources and support you need to succeed. All you need to provide are your ideas for America and your hunger for change. To get started in your community, just log onto My.BarackObama.com and go to our Platform Meetings page. (If you don't have a My.BarackObama.com account, creating one is simple and easy.) Thank you for all that you do, Barack ********************************************* There is no such thing as " false hope " ! http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org/ http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org/contents/programs_and_services/books_tapes_\ and_videos.php
