Guest guest
Color Therapy: Healing for Body, Mind, and Spirit By Aurore Adamkiewicz, ND www.beyondnaturalmedicine.com Color therapy can be approached in many different ways. Waldorf uses it in terms of the Goethe color wheel with an emphasis on secondary colors. The Vedic scriptures, in terms of Ayurveda, uses color therapy to balance the doshas which are based on the elemental constitutions of the body: fire, water, or air. Another application for color therapy is through the work of the late Dr. Dinshah and his area of expertise " Spectro-Chrome. " Dinshah is attributed to bringing color therapy to the United States, using it for healing and created a large case study database for many different diseases and illness. He worked in a hospital in Philadelphia in the early 1900s but he was never free from persecution by the medical association who were out to prove he was a " quack. " I myself, as a naturopath, specialize in Vedic and Spectro-chrome color therapy and have had and continue to have amazing results. So much so, that I depend very little on expensive herbs and natural pills to bring the body back into balance. I am also, at the present time working on applying color therapy to Orgone therapy, as a means to unearth and heal the emotional body as well. In regards of using color therapy for the application of disease, the body or more specifically, the energetic shell surrounding the body will only take in the amount of color that it needs to balance. Dinshah asserted that the body shuts off after an hour unless you have an acute problem, as in the case of hemorrhaging or sepsis (Dinshah, 2005). This is one of the many foundations of using Spectro-chrome color therapy and how I primarily use it as a Naturopath with my six point color machine, affectionately coined, the " Aurorachrome. " Regarding Vedic or Goethe color therapy, problems arise when too much of one color upsets the balance on an emotional/energetic level (Thirta, 1998). So, for such devices as color graded sunglasses, where you are continually receiving color, the mood or emotional body can become affected and altered. Take for example, pink glasses, they have been proven to reduce headaches and calm a person down within minutes. Coincidentally, bubblegum pink rooms are used in institutions and asylums in order to sedate and calm. One must also take into account the propensity for pink to continually sedate or take an effect on someone who is too calm or lacking energy. Perhaps this could inadvertently contribute to apathy or the organism's ability to " enter in " to their life more consciously. So, I was always told that grey gradient sunglasses are the best and any other colors should be reserved for special times and circumstances. When speaking on Ayurvedic color therapy, I am not talking about the chakric centers, which were assigned colors in the latter half of the 20th century (Eason, 2001). I specifically address this information in my book " Beyond Natural Cures " where I compare and contrast Dinshah's color recommendation with the chakra colors. In terms of vedic color therapy it is about the ability to excite or depress, heat or cool. I use color therapy primarily based between Ayurveda and Dinshah. More specifically, the area of cymatics, which is the study of wavelengths as named by the late Dr. Jenny in the early to mid 1900s are the foundation of my focus. This is whether I am talking about color, sound, or even electromagnetic fields and microwaves. For instance in a bedroom lacking marital " action " or sleep, might be caused from the color of the room or perhaps the bed is placed up against a wall inundated with electrical cords within the wall. Similarly, a TV, smoke detector, alarm clock or computer could all contribute to wavelength disorders, manifesting in a " bad " nights sleep or as complex as cancer and disease. When looking at cymatics, the science and study of wavelengths, problems could be related to wavelengths of color, wavelengths of sound or actual wavelengths and microwaves from electrical fields such as those emitted from cell phones, computers, or the highly damaging and disease causing " Wi-Fi. " In regards to Steiner and Goethe the color green and the " Peach Flesh " color are considered healing and balancing (Lissau, 2003). I have in my color machine- 250 different color slides and color combinations but NO peach. So, this does interest me and I am researching this more. A basic guideline for children and cymatics is making sure the child has access to a full spectrum of colors and MOST importantly are not exposed on a daily basis to fluorescent lighting or the so called " full spectrum " lighting which has the yellow completely taken out of it. Keeping electrical devices out of the bedroom or playing area and not living in an area where Wi-fi is being directly " shot " into your home or school from a tower would be a good protocol to follow. Realize that when attempting to provide a healing environment in terms of all wavelengths, color is only apart of the whole. I can't help but think how much healthier, stronger, smarter and more energy we all would have been without spending ten hours a day in the mind altering cancer causing fluorescent lighting at school. Imagine if schools switched over to the more healthier and eco- friendly LEDs. In closing, I have an excellent article on the dangers of fluorescent lighting available on my website, so please take a moment to check that out to. It is my sincere hope that color and sound therapy will be taken more seriously in years to come. References Dinshah, Darius. (2005). Let there be light.
