Guest guest
I am 34 yrs old and facing a Hysterectomy due to Endometriosis and possible Ovarian Cancer. Nine weeks ago I had a DNC and Laparoscopy to remove cysts and tumors and Severe Endometriosis. This surgery was unsuccussful. I am being told a Hysterectomy is my best option and that I will have to take hormones until I am at least 50 yrs old. Are there any alternatives to these hormones(they sound rather nasty). If anyone can help me out with this I would be so thankful. I'm not too trusting of the BIG PHARMA COMPANIES. God Bless, Amy
Guest guest
Hi group, I'm also interested in alternative hormone therapy due to removal of the ovaries. Diana
Guest guest
Amy, did you have an excision done? There are a handful of specialists in the US who do excision for endo. Hysterectomy is not a solution for endometriosis, as it can still be there after all your parts are taken out! Check out the Endometriosis Research Center to see what helps and what doesn't: http://www.endocenter.org A hyster due to cancer is another story, and may be necessary in that instance. The first rule of hormone replacement... never ever ever take estrogen alone. Always take it with progesterone to balance it out. Most doctors still think that it's safe to give estrogen by itself if there is no uterus. This is outdated and wrong! You don't have to go the synthetic route. There are natural estrogens and natural progesterone available. *Hint: Horse estrogen is not natural to a human.* Find a good book on hormones to help you manage this minefield. If you haven't read any before, I suggest starting with Dr. John Lee's " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause " . Another of my favorites is Dr. Sherrill Sellman's " Hormone Heresy: What Women Must Know About Their Hormones " . I can only imagine how scared you are right now. You have such big decisions to make at 34! Arm yourself with information, and ask a million questions. Shana Clagg Hormone Health...
