Dear Reader,

I'm often asked if it's good for one's health

to fast one day a week, or even one day every

month.

If you're not sure about the answer to this

question, please feel free to view my latest

blog entry here:

Is Fasting One Day a Week Good for Your Health?

Another question that I'm often asked is if

our green food formula has enough calcium to

ensure healthy bones.

Our green food formula contains a variety of

organic land vegetables and wild-crafted sea

vegetables, many of which are rich in calcium.

One flat tablespoon of our green food formula

contains approximately 400 to 600 mg of calcium

that occurs naturally in land and sea vegetables.

Our green food formula is also rich in magnesium,

silica, boron, and phosphorus, all of which are

essential to the development and maintenance of

healthy bones and teeth.

Still, the answer to the question of whether

a serving of our greens contains enough calcium

to ensure healthy bones is not a simple one,

because the health of your bones is affected by

all of your dietary and lifestyle choices.

You might be ingesting large amounts of calcium

via the foods and supplements that you eat, but

if you are regularly eat more acid-forming foods

than alkaline-forming foods, your body is

regularly tapping into your calcium reserves to

keep your blood at the right pH level. (More on

the essentials of acid vs. alkaline-forming

foods in an upcoming newsletter.)

Similarly, you might be ingesting plenty of

calcium, but if you are regularly eat un-soaked

grains and other foods that are high in phytates,

it's possible that you aren't absorbing a large

percentage of the calcium that you're eating.

And if you're not getting enough vitamin D

through exposure to sunlight and/or your diet,

your body may not be absorbing and using the

calcium in your diet in optimal fashion.

Also, let's not forget that if you're not

getting enough physical exercise or sleep, your

bones will never be optimally healthy, even with

a program of nutritional excellence.

I could go on, but hopefully, my point is clear.

How much calcium you're getting each day from

the foods and supplements that you eat shouldn't

be the primary focus in your quest to keep your

bones strong and healthy as you age.

To keep your bones and teeth healthy in the

years ahead, you need to support your overall

health through all of your dietary and lifestyle

choices. You need to eat a nutrient-dense diet,

be physically active, get adequate rest, be in

the presence of fresh air and sunlight (without

getting burned), and perhaps most importantly,

you need to work at feeling emotionally centered

most of the time.

Regarding the calcium issue, if you are eating

plenty of green vegetables like lettuce, cabbage,

kale, and broccoli, you likely don't need to

worry about how much calcium you're getting

through your diet. It's better to spend your

energy on ensuring that other facets of your

diet and lifestyle are optimally supporting the

health of your bones. If you want extra

insurance on the calcium front, include mineral-

rich broths and/or a green food product that is

free of fillers in your diet.

If you'd like more of a comprehensive summary

of the essential requirements for healthy bones,

please feel free to view the following article:

It's my earnest hope that you and everyone else

who has read through the section above never

again has to wonder if a supplement contains

enough calcium to ensure healthy bones. To

have healthy bones, your focus should be on

promoting good overall health through all of

your daily choices.

How about making a blueberry cheesecake for

Father's day? If you're a fan of blueberry

cheesecake, I think you'll like the following

raw and dairy-free version:

Raw Blueberry Cheesecake Recipe

And hey, if you just don't have enough time

to put together this healthy version of

blueberry cheesecake, treat yourself to a

slice of the real thing and celebrate the

indulgence with a loved one. The good

feelings that surround you as you eat your

cheesecake may just offset the negative

health effects of all that cream cheese and

sugar. :)

One final note for today: It appears that

after many years of keeping the price of

our green food formula as low as it has been,

the rising cost of raw materials is going to

necessitate a price increase.

Two bits of good news on this:

1. The price increase should be quite modest.

2. We just put together an extra large batch

of our greens to encourage regular users to

order a bottle or two before the price

increase takes effect.

I'm not quite sure when the price increase

will happen, but I'll definitely try to hold

it off for as long as I can.

Please feel free to place an order for our

green food product here:

Wishing every Dad out there a Happy Father's

Day this coming Sunday!

Until next time, take care.
