Guest guest
So... I'm miserable for weeks...after developing a dependency to Oxycodone (caused by a really, really, incredibly painful bout w/ Sciatica...the Oxycodone was the only thing on earth that took the pain away...which enabled me to perform my physical therapy...which cured the Sciatica). Trouble was...I couldn't get off the oxy by myself. So...I go outside the network & find a doctor to prescribe Subutex...to the tune of $350 cash money...but the Subutex worked like a charm & got me off the oxy. But...the Subutex was pretty neat, itself... & after I was totally off everything for a while, I began to get pretty depressed. So my primary care puts me on Lexapro...tells me it's one of those new SSRI wonder drugs...I'll start to feel better in two weeks. Trouble was...I had a nasty reaction to this stuff...the first day making me dizzy & sleepy; & after 6 days I was also feeling pretty weird in the groin... & so I said to myself I had had enough. The first day off was OK, but the second morning I woke up w/ the shakes & chills. I call my primary & she brings me in & berates me for going cold turkey & puts me on a weaning plan...1 tab every other day. That happened to be my ON day...so I took 1 tab; & it DID in fact make me feel better...but just for that day. Next day I wake up...yesterday...my OFF med day... & I'm shaking w/ the chills again...this time worse. I'm lying in bed wondering what to do...but I was feeling so bad & so weird...the only thing that made me feel better was to go to work...I swear to god. I don't know how in God's name I made it through the day...but I did... & actually managed to get some work accomplished. But as soon as work was over & I was in my vehicle...I was still trembling & had the chills. So off I went to the local health food store...picked up some Buffered C for the withdraw...some liquid calcium/magnesium for the nervous system... & I already had some liquid B Complex at home (also for the nerves)...( & some L-Tryptophan...for depression). Last night & today (working on the house...just to stop thinking about the shakes & how weird I'm still feeling...I took prescribed doses of the B complex, C & calcium/magnesium... & it's making me feel better... & I think I'm finally on the road to sweating this stuff out (literally sweating...last nite I soaked the bad...wife is pissed). [she was pissed anyway 'cause she's tired of a 55 year old digital/internet musician Doctor FeelGood type ( & the oxy killed ten full years of sobriety...killed it dead)]...but I'm wondering 2 things: 1) The expert at the health food store suggested actually using the L- Tryptophan on my OFF Lexapro days...to ease the withdraw...says they combine the two in Europe w/ good results...for both depression & Lexapro withdraw. ( & also: if I'm not taking Lexapro again...cold turkeying from today on...it was recommended for that usage, as well). Is this a good idea? 2) If I become depressed again...how good is this stuff as a natural anti-depressant? Thanks ( & sorry for the long epic)... Guest guest
Tryptophan, combined with trace minerals, got me off my three-year Effexor stupor. It converts to serotonin and melatonin - essential neurotransmitters. Turkey is loaded with it... that's why we all feel so satisfied after a Thanksgiving dinner. (Pumpkin seeds have a lot too.) I say go for it! Couldn't hurt. Good luck - that SSRI detox is not fun! Guest guest
Sonic Max: I recently weaned myself off Lexapro (which I felt did absolutely nothing for my depression and caused me to gain a great deal of weight)...but I used a different method, which I learned from an individual who posted on a psychotropic drug forum... I had no " off " days...I think when you are weaning off an antidepressant, an " off " day is too rough on the system...so I started off with four days taking half the dose I would ordinarily...then four days halving the dose again...then a final four days halving it a final time. I had no side effects while I was still on Lexapro, even though it was less than I was used to taking...when I was finally done with it, and not taking any of it, I did have some restlessness, but nothing anywhere near unbearable. I am now off it about six weeks, and feel no side effects from not taking it. Although this worked for me, it may not for you...so please run it by a person who is more knowledgable than I am about this weaning process..but my suggestion is to not have any days when you are not taking the Lexapro during the weaning process, but rather, just steadily and gradually cut down on it until you are not taking it. Maybe the tryptophan can help during this process, too... Good luck...Janet -- In , " sonicmaximus " <sonicmaximus wrote: I'm miserable for weeks...after developing a dependency to Oxycodone (caused by a really, really, incredibly painful bout w/ Sciatica...the Oxycodone was the only thing on earth that took the pain away...which enabled me to perform my physical therapy...which cured the Sciatica). Guest guest
I'm a physician. I 'blew' (ruptured; herniated) two discs [L4-5, L5-S1] digging out a plant. I couldn't walk 9 ft. or even drive. My right leg pain & back pain made me a real cry-baby. Laying down wasn't possible, either Of course, the Hospital Chief-of-Staff said, " Surgery " . I, of course, said " NO! " . Then I looked up an old colleague and found a suitable doctor practicing prolotherapy full-time. There wasn't any near me; but there was the former Association President practicing in Phoenix, AZ, 400mi. away! I took what pain-killers I had & my wife drove us to Phoenix. {The homeopathic (harmless) called " Rescue Remedy " , available at Health Stores,, can help get you thru depression.} Saw the doc next morning, was examined & had a " PROLO' treatment. Result? For the first time in months (!) I actually drove almost home (250mi to Tucson, before my Dear Wife MADE me stop & took over). Pain-free for the first time! It took 4 more visits, 2 weeks apart & then one month apart (total=5 visits); I could do ANYTHING then & still do. No need to 'marry' your doctor; no need for three times-a-week visits, no pills! So, here's advice from the horses-end: find an MD/DO/ND trained in Prolotherapy & doing it full-time. You can go online & find one; search for " Fulltime Prolotherapy Doctor " ; that should get you to a reliable doctor. [be certain he/she does NOT use any steroids in the injection; make that certain. And don't be satisfied with someone who only does it 20-30% of the time; get it done right. ASK!) Your exam will be insurance covered; the injections will not be covered & cost $80-$100. each AND WORTH IT! Take along any x-rays, etc., you have. They'll save you time. Forget surgery now... make that a LAST resort. And kool it on exercises other than walking: ask your doc. Best of luck! ****************** , " sonicmaximus " <sonicmaximus wrote: > > So... > > I'm miserable for weeks...after developing a dependency to Oxycodone > (caused by a really, really, incredibly painful bout w/ > Sciatica...the Oxycodone was the only thing on earth that took the > pain away...which enabled me to perform my physical therapy...which > cured the Sciatica).
