Healthy Beverages?

I'd say for the last 6-8 months, I have had nothing to drink other than

water and green tea. I find these beverages to be healthy and I enjoy

consuming them.

But every so often, I get a craving for something different. I don't

drink alcohol. I like, but gave up diet sodas. And I have never liked

coffee.

So what do you all drink? I want something healthy. Also, something

that can serve as a pick me up when I am dragging or in need of energy.

Fruit juices?

Something else?

I mostly just drink water, but I also get odd cravings for other

beverages, and choose grapefruit and orange juices to satisfy and

give me a nice pick-me-up.

the only thing i drink other than tea (any true tea... black, green, white,

oolong), coffee, and occasionally alcohol, is cranergy and bolthouse farms'

mocha cappuccino and prickly pear cactus lemonade.

Hi,

Kombucha tea is great, you can buy it now it is a bit fizzy and

refreshing. There is a whole dedicated to the making of

it.

Kvass is good too. Different teas are good. the zingers are good for

summer. Mineral water and spring water are good.

I like to sip on a combo of aloe juice and water. It's about 5:1,

water to aloe juice. I also like to put a few drops of peppermint or

lemon essential oil in a liter of water for a change of pace.

Wheat extract is my favorite beverage, it is more of a food actually

because it is quite filling. I never consume any grains or bread and

lost any attachment to them since I discovered the wheat extract.

The wheat extract does not contain starch and other insoluble fiber

and therefore it causes virtually no gas, as opposed to whole grains.

Nonetheless, the wheat extract contains most of the vitamins and

proteins of the wheat grain. It also contains soluble fiber and

probably because of that, it seems to stimulate peristalsis pretty

well.

To make the wheat extract, mix 1 kg of whole grain wheat flour (not

the white flour, the grey one) with 2.5 liters of water using a big

spoon or ladle until there are no clumps. Put it in the fridge for 6

to 12 hours and then decant the supernatant carefully. This is the

beverage! The solids can be reextracted with one liter of water in a

similar fashion 2 more times. It is not gourmet fare, but the taste

is quite pleasant.

I like to drink Pomegranate juice. I also like orange mango juice or

tangerine juice mixed with aloe vera juice. I drink filtered water

with lemon in it, and sometimes I have a drink of apple cider vinegar

with water, both of these to make my body more alkaline. Cranberry

juice is good too.

I love to drink mixed juice carrot, lime and tomatoes. Apple cider vinegar is

very good for diet because it can suppress appertite.

And my other favorite is green tea or chinese tea. It is very good for diet and

functioned as anti aging and detoxification. It has been proved from the history

of chinese herbal.

Knudsen makes some great just juice. They are probably the closest thing to

making it yourself. I love the Pomegranate as it has heart benefits far

surpassing red grape juice or mix the pomegranate and grape. They are as they

state, just juice and nothing added. Lemon juice in water is also good. I like

mine in plain carbonated water. I love sour tastes but you can always sweeten

with stevia. There is nothing like a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade made from

fully ripe lemons. Let the lemons ripen until just a bit soft as the juice will

be much sweeter.

Sara - Do you mean 118 ounces of fluids such as these juice drinks or

118 ounces of water, including some fruit juice? I wouldn't try to get

all your fluids via any juice drink. That's too much sugar - even if

it is natural - and too many calories. Try filtered water with a

splash of fresh lemon or a bit of the juice you love. That will be

much healthier for your body.

It's also much better to eat a whole piece of fruit than drink fruit

juice. A piece of fruit fills you up better, gives you lots of nice

nutrients and provides fiber.

Sometimes I have just a bit - like 4 ounces - of a fruit juice when I

crave something with a bit more taste, but mostly I'm pretty happy

anymore with a cool, crisp, clean glass of water! Mostly, I even water

down the juices because they taste too sweet to me.

That's a lot of pretty empty calories, sugar and caffeine, Sara. Can

you begin to replace some of that with filtered water? If the tea is

weak and not sweetened, that 84 ounces may not be too bad, but it

still would be good to get more water in your system.

If it seems overwhelming, just take one drink and replace it. Then

keep moving on. It'll be so good for your health overall.

Or, if you want to make the move in its entirety, go *cold turkey* and

drink all water! I had to do that, and, while I griped some at the

time, it was the best thing I ever did. I soon didn't care and

appreciated the taste of water. Now, water is what I prefer. Once in a

while, I'll enjoy some juice or coffee drink, but it's probably only

once or twice a week. Each day I still have quite a few glasses of water.

For background, I was treated holistically for Lyme Disease. My doctor

told me that, to get well, I had to get rid of things that might lower

my immune system. That included every sort of sugar, caffeine, alcohol

and more. Didn't leave a whole lot to drink! But doing that made me

feel much better so it quickly became a no-brainer choice for me. Once

I recovered, those sweet drinks didn't taste good to me anymore.

Take care,

Cindy
