Guest guest
Although it's a serious issue - I think it's important not to get a whole panic started. As per the news reports, the measles vaccine used in Ukraine was produced by Serum Institute of India Ltd. The measles vaccines we use in the United States is from Merck, a different manufacturer. ~Val _Measles Vaccination Causes Deaths and Hospitalizations _ (/message/32773;_ylc=X3oDMTJxNTh\ xNjAxBF9TAzk3MzU5 NzE1BGdycElkAzM0Mzc0MwRncnBzcElkAzE3MDUwNjA4MTQEbXNnSWQDMzI3NzMEc2VjA2Rtc2cEc2 xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTIxMTQ3ODkyMQ--) Thu May 22, 2008 5:37 am (PDT) Pampers Donated Vaccines to UNICEF to HELP the children.. Guest guest
It would appear that in India, the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India Ltd. at Pune. http://cvi.asm.org/cgi/reprint/14/10/1370.pdf In the U.S., Merck's MMR vaccine is manufactured at their plant in West Point, Pennsylvania. However, this does not mean there are no problems with safety here. You might recall several batches of this vaccine were suspended in Canada last December when 5 people were hospitalised with serious allergic reactions after receiving MMR-II. <http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/2207> http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/2207 More disturbing facts - " Late last year, Merck issued a recall for 1.2 million doses of some pediatric vaccines made at the West Point, Pennsylvania plant cited in (an FDA warning letter) " .... " after an FDA inspection of the Merck plant had uncovered 45 areas of concern, including contaminated packaging of children's vaccines, unwanted fibers on vaccine vial stoppers, failure to follow good management practices, and contamination of bulk vaccine lots. " http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/3007 The FDA inspection of the plant occurred between November 26 2007 and January 17 2008 and the warning letter to Merck describing " a number of significant objectionble conditions relating to (the) firm's compliance with CGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) " can be read here http://www.fda.gov/foi/warning_letters/s6756c.htm (another) Val <http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/2207> <http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/3007>
