any recommendations for dealing with these? Prilosec works well for

the acid reflux, but is very expensive and does not deal with the IB.

try changing your diet. while i don't have IBS or AR, my medication causes

severe constipation. i have found that eating 2 containers of activia daily- one

1st thing in the morning and one right before bed. honey and cinnamon are also

great for the stomach. soy is a good protein choice instead of meat. as much as

i hate to say it, beverages like coffee and tea are not good if you have these

conditions. neither is carbonated beverages. in addition to diet changes, try

adding yoga to your daily routine and take supplements like bee pollen, sea

kelp, and aloe vera.

I used to have both.

I found that when I changed my diet and eliminated simple carbs,

particulary wheat and other grains, my IB cleared up and has not

returned. Do you have anxiety issues as well? There seems to be a link

between the two. The IB fueled the anxiety and the anxiety fueled the

IB. Once I changed my diet, my anxiety began to dissipate as well.

Both are under control now.

Acid reflux is caused by not having enough Hydrochloric acid in your

stomach. Try this test: when you have a flare-up, take a tablespoon of

apple cider vinegar in some water. If it clears up, you know that you

need more acid, not less. You can purchase acv tablets to take with

your meals. Or digestive enzymes that contain HCA. Another help is to

drink plenty of water. I found that when I consumed more water, the

pain and discomfort went away. Taking drugs only complicates the

problem by reducing the acid in your stomach, which results in poor

digestion, etc.

A good site for natural health cures is earthclinic.com. You will find

a lot of good info there.

Potatoes are alkaline, as are most fruits and vegetables. Try eating those-

good luck.

Plant-based enzymes and probiotics. Lots of each!

hi, just read an article on this in a magazine called Newlife (newlifemag.com,

March-April 2008, " Magic Magnesium " ) it said, " IBS is another condition that

responds to magnesium. With proper regulation of diet, elimination of food

allergies, restoration of gut ecology with good probiotics and nutrients like

magnesium chronic IBS can often clear up. Research suggests that IBS patients

have extra sensitive pain receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, which may be

related to low levels of serotonin. This may also explain why people w/IBS are

likely to be depressed(although IBS itself is so umcomfortable it might also be

the cause). Since there are more serotonin receptors in the gut than in the

brain, you can begin to see how nutrients like magnesium, which both relaxes

smoothe muscle and supports serotonin production and action, might go a long way

toward healing IBS. "

i couldn't agree with you more- i have dealt with MUCH less bowel problems since

i started drinking 14 cups of tea a day, eating 2 activias (one in the morning,

one before bed) and taking extra magnesium and iron. i love the multivitamin i

take but it only has 13% of my RDV!
