Mucus and congestion in the Lungs

Hi everyone!

I've been sick with some kind of bug, and for the last month have had

a lot of mucus and congestion in my lungs.

So far I've tried three herbs separately, and given each a chance to

work with breaking up the mucus and releasing it, but none have given

me the results I want.

I tried the liquid tinctures, Mullein, Pleurisy Root and Wild Cherry

Bark.

Any suggestions for stubborn chest/lung congestion that wants to

linger? Any thought would be apperciated.

Thanks,

Jean

Hi Jean - Have you tried B & T's Homeopathic Bronchial Cough Syrup? I'm

always recommending it because it works so well. I used to get that

sort of terrible congestion, but the B & T syrup really cleaned it up. I

don't even get congested anymore, and I had it at least once a year

before.

If you don't want to try that or can't find it, there also is a lemon

mixture that seems to help break up congestion. You'll cough and choke

like mad when it's coming back up, though. I haven't used it in so

many years that I'm not sure of the exact details, but perhaps you can

find it or someone else will know.

I think it was just a couple tablespoons of lemon juice in 8 ounces of

warm water. Might have had a bit of honey mixed in, too, but I don't

think so. I used it once for my son. He coughed and hated me because

it tasted so bad to him (that's why I think there wasn't honey in

there, which would have sweetened it), but his congestion broke up.

Inhaling steam of garlic and thyme boiled in a little water seemed to

help me a lot.

If it is in your lungs, I think you would need a nebulizer to prevent pneumonia.

Check with your doctor about this. Albuterol is usually what is inhaled. It

can raise your blood pressure, so don't take it with sudafed. Good luck

Hi,

I had a round of this bug this past winter and thought it could be

some sort of reaction to mold. in any event what worked for me was

Cayenne pepper I put it in empty caps and swallowed it and also drank

it in water with lemon. I also ate alot of raw garlic chopped up

small. and took alot more digestive enzymes. Somehow the lungs and

the digestive system relate to each other. When I have anything going

on with the lungs I take more enzymes. I toyed with the idea of doing

a mustard poltuice (sp?) but have never done one of those before. It

sounds so old fashioned and is a folk remedy but also kinda

intriguing. I also did alot more use of my neti pot with super fine

salt and baking soda that really did help. I drank more water and

rested more.

whatever you decide to do take good care!

The first thing you need to do is stop eating things that create

mucous in the first place: milk and dairy, oranges, and white

rice are a good beginning.

Try the Lobelia tincture or make Lobelia herb tea; spit out any mucous

which may be expelled; eat Citrus fruits and cucumbers with salt. a.--

Another old remedy that I remember now is pounding the back (over the

lungs or bronchial tubes) with a closed, cupped hand -- the percussion

travels through the tissues and helps break up the congestion.

I just realized that I like the most-direct kind of remedies...

Thanks so much for your advice Patty! I have a neti pot and I use

non-iodized sea salt and natural baking soda with it, but honestly I

stopped using it months ago. I found that if it didn't flow freely,

and I had any kind of congestion, then it caused some pain behind my

eye or ear, and there was a time when the water came out of my nose

without warning at my work, not a good thing.

Milk and dairy cause mucous to be produced.

If you want to cut it out, then stop all dairy and cheese.

A good product that is organic that helps to reduce mucous and helps to get it

out of the lungs is " Clear Lungs " by Ridgecrest Herbals.

I have asthma and emphysema and this has helped my lungs so much.

I used to be unable to fill my lungs with air. I had to use oxygen all the time,

and I would cough stuff up all the time.

Now, I only use oxygen at night. I can exercise and walk for a long time.

I rarely cough anything up at all.

It is so nice to be able to take a deep breath and fill my lungs completely up!

Truly a blessing.

I hope this helps!

Blessings!
