Guest guest
Hi Folks! I attended an educational presentation on HIV and treatments yesterday. As always, the only picture of HIV (as a virus) was a computer generated image. HIV appears to be elusive, are there no actual photographic images? The focus was on treatments, and when to initiate treatment. Side effects were also presented. I found myself wondering about the mental health of persons, who have embraced HIV medications, knowing the severity of side effects (kidney failure, liver dysfunction, heart attacks, diabetes, osteoporosis, neuropathy, lipodystrophy, and more). What is more likely to occur, is an insistance on determining mental health of people, who refuse 'treatment'. The benefits of 'treatment' are improved CD4 counts (which have little correlation with health or wellbeing) and lowered viral loads (still controversial measures of RNA--which, may not even be viral RNA)and if the side effects don't kill the HIV+ person, and the coctail combinations fail again and again, why, the clinical benefits are certainly there--good numbers does improve health, right?
