I have had them on and off all my life , but lately they have been daily. Anyone else suffer from this problem. I have high anxiety and a very nervous person, I'm trying not to be so nervous and be calmer. This is what I take: Co Q10, Magnesium, Fish oils, Aged garlic, ( I am a long time user of valerian, and just learned long term use could cause this too.) Thank you! Guest guest
I have used Hawthorne Berries for many years to alleviate this when I get them. I boil a handfull of raw berries and drink the tea. I have also taken the capsules, and find they work too. Incidentally, I also stay on the things you mentioned, and add Niacin as well. Other tudies suggest an ability to increase coronary blood flow. Traditionally, valerian has been used to " relieve " heart and muscle spasms in the arteries leading to the heart which is the most common cause of arrythmias). As Arrythmias are usually caused by muscle spasms there are no reasons to believe that valerian could ever be problematic in any of these areas. In fact, according to the scientific literature valerian should improve circulation. There are other herbs which have proven just as effective as valerian. Although I don't have any idea how long you've been using it, if you really feel that you need a break, you should take a week off, substituting some other sleep inducing herbs/supplements instead. I'm not sure what you've experimented with in the past, however Melatonin in small doses is very effective as a sleep aid. Diet can be a factor as well. Our first line of defense is eliminating hydrogenated oils and margarines from every area of our diet. Since we have eliminated transfats in the form of hydrogenated oils we have had no arrythmias to speak of, literally none at all! they are a very big factor in health! Adding more organic fruits and vegetables, extra virgin olive oil, and alaskan salmon are also beneficial. Saturated fats in dairy and meats sometimes can also pose quite a problem., and as everyone is different it takes some experimentation on our part to really know what the basis is. Extra Magnesium is especially good for muscle spasms. Whenever arrythmias occur, (which isn't often) I increase my magnesium intake while decreasing the amounts of calcium which enters my system at any one time from diet etc, etc. There are so many factors (sodium for example and refined sugar) which deplete magnesium in standard american diet. Any one of them can lead to an imbalance in electrolytes. Potassium rich foods as well as supplementation decreases stress and anxiety. I prefer to think that potatoes are a rich source of potassium so try to include them in our diet daily. It is the toppings which lead to excessive weight gain, not the potatoe themselves. Earth Balance spreads and Spectrum oils provide us with a more healthier alternative to margarine. Ezekiel sprouted grain breads are easier to digest. The sesame seed bread provides extra heart benefits as well. Sesame seeds are rich in selenium. Selenium is imperative! It should be taken in combination with vitamin E to be effective. Whenever any of these problems are caused by free radicals which have entered our bloodstream from our very toxic environment, AND refined foods, very often selenium will eliminate them from our bodies. Selenium is a good detox although one shouldn't take over 200 mcg daily in supplements. Additional amounts can be derived from raw nuts and seeds such as the sesmae seeds I've just mentioned. Guest guest
I believe I gave a woefully inadequate answer before. What really helped, and what made a difference between a lifetime of sickness and doctors, and about 25 years of good health, was indeed hawthorne and garlic and other supplements. But more than that, I embraced the healthy lifestyle that folks talk about: I dont eat too many " dead things " , things that have blood, alcohol, etc. I do eat alot of vegetables: garlic, carrots, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, onions, beans, squash, apples, bananas, oatmeal, citrus, rice, pasta and red wine in moderation... sort of a vegatearian diet with little fried. I eat lots of fish. But, there is something to be said of sweating, and of making the body dispose of toxins- excercise in the form of outdoor work- that is there in moderate amounts too, and daily walking (to/from work).I used to cycle daily. I get away or hide for at least an hour of quiet time- prayer, reading, or just sitting. Its really not about picking the right supplement- although they are important in their own means- but about changing how I lived. I gave up beer, whiskey, pharmaceutical medicenes, beef, pork- its also about looking at what we are doing as a whole in our lives, and how that is affecting our health. Then make adjustments. Then maintain and enjoy that achieved physical and mental balance. Thats been my happy experience. I might also add: if I blast off about doctors at times, I am not saying that they have no place. Over the years, I have had to see a doctor; ususally when prudent and reasonable attempts to self heal had failed and I was in jeapardy of death...and looking back, I had gotten so ill because I had begun to neglect those healthy practices mentioned above. Just my experience... Michael On Behalf Of Michael Thursday, May 04, 2006 2:18 PM RE: Heart palpitations...New here I have used Hawthorne Berries for many years to alleviate this when I get them.
