Guest guest
I have a friend who is looking for help for a relative and thought maybe someone here might have some suggestions. She has a relative who's 9 yr old son recentlhy contracted Aspergillus Fungus in his lungs and it has affected him greatly. He can’t go to school now, and is on loads of drugs due to his preexisting cystic fibrosis condition and now aspergillus. The mortality rate is 50% for those contracting it. They live in the D.C. area but would be willing to travel great distance to seek good medical help. Any thoughts from this very knowledgeable group would be greatly appreciated. I lost a daughter myself 9 years ago due to a Fusarium fungus which she developed as a complication of Aplastic Anemia. The drug they used (Amphotericin) for my daughter is also what they use for aspergillis. He is probably also on at least one if not several heavy duty antibiotics. My first thought was at least to add some probiotics but I am really new to alternative medicine and don't know much else. I know from past experience that there are a couple of forms of Amphotericin, a lipid form that's supposed to work better and be less toxic, but that information is from 9 years ago. Evidently there aren't any new drugs for this type of thing. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Linn

Garlic is one of the best herbs for fungus. Study after study has shown the fungicidal effect of " allicin " . In 1986, one research team found that garlic curtailed the fungi's ability to take up oxygen and inhibited its biosynthesis of protein and lipids. These effects appeared in the bloodstream soon after ingesting fresh garlic. Garlic boosts the impaired immune system which tends to fight it off as well. Garlic is widely used for it's antibiotic components, which are found mainly in finely minced or crushed raw garlic cloves. For best results the garlic must be used immediately after crushing which releases the essential componenet allicin. Pau d' Arco (taheebo) is anti fungal and is commonly used as herbal tea. The tea should be boiled for five minutes or more before the strongest herbal components are released. Supplemental forms of this herb are not nearly as effective as the herbal teas. Another suggestion would be Olive leaf extract supplements which are proven excellent for fungi control. I believe that I would also try Mullein and Slippery Elm for this purpose.
