The Food Safety and Inspection Service is proposing to make it easier for consumers to find out if meat or poultry products have been recalled. Specifically, the Agency will now release a list of places where the recalled meat was sold to the public. For instance, if a batch of Tyson chicken were recalled, FSIS would post a list of all the stores that sold that chicken up on their website. " By providing consumers more information about the locations where recalled products have been sold, FSIS believes that consumers will be more likely to identify and return such products to those locations or to dispose of them. " Sounds pretty common sense, right? Incredibly, up until now, when an adulterated or misbranded meat product has been recalled, the consumer is in the dark about where the product was sold. As many people don't remember the particular brand and batch of meat they purchased, they are unaware of the food safety risk, and continue to purchase or consume the recalled product. This has left people vulnerable to food-borne illnesses like E.Coli and Salmonella. Tell FSIS you support this change! http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=98762933 & url_num=1 & url=http:/\ /www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/fwwatch/campaign.jsp?campaign_KE\ Y=3183 And don't forget to check out our new Food Alert , with articles on the Hawaiian irradiator and the disappearance of the Californian avocado... http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=98762933 & url_num=2 & url=http:/\ /www.foodandwaterwatch.org/food/food-alert-winter-2006
