Guest guest
From Pat Gurnick <pat: Dear Friends, This community is being built for CFIDS/MCS/FMS ! Come 'HELP' us develop this important co-housing healing environment. Warmly, Pat Gurnick, CLC Psychotherapist Certified Lifestyle Counselor of CEFCA Website Support www.caringcounselor.com " CFIDS/FMS/MCS Survivor " Potential site available for MCS Housing As some of you may know, we are developing PWC Cohousing for people with fibromyalgia and CFIDS. Recreation Health & Wholeness has been working on this project for several years. We have sites in Gloucester, Massachusetts and Windsor, South Carolina. For economic reasons, the first phase of the PWC Cohousing project cannot accommodate people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). However, we have been inundated with enquiries from MCS folk. Because of this, we have decided to offer part or all of one of the South Carolina sites for sale to those of you who might be interested in forming a group to build an MCS-compatible community. This is a 27-acre piece of land adjacent to the Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve ( http://www.dnr.sc.gov/managed/heritage/aikengopher/description.html ). This site was acquired after extensive research into both desirability and economics. We are writing to all of you because you are the 40 or so people with MCS who have inquired about PWC Cohousing and are highly motivated to build safe housing for yourselves and your families. (There are others whose emails are not currently available but who have extensive information onspecifications, materials, models and existing research on MCS home requirements. There is an established project in California and a doctor who has researched and designed a program for homes.) Within the group there are some very talented people who have background in,for example, grant writing, fundraising, marketing, communications, bookkeeping, management, design and floor planning. Combining your skills will make the development, building, and administration easier and much less expensive. You might consider setting up a separate from the PWC Cohousing one so you can " meet " and discuss issues and progress. Your group also has among its members: nutritionists, organic gardeners, physical therapists, Yoga instructors and Pilates instructors who can help keeping the community as healthy as possible. Many of these people can assist with the nearby PWC Cohousing project and may find later part time work supporting one or both project. As many of you know, PWC Cohousing has already researched low interest individual financing for qualified low income homebuyers, options for group organization, funding sources for community development, and we have design, planning and development experience. We would be in a position to act as consultants in this capacity for a similar MCS project The MCS site could support the PWC Cohousing clinic, and we could give you support with that as a joint project. Furthermore, our nonprofit could sponsor you as a " Self Help " group, opening options to make the homes even less expensive. In addition, Habitat might come on board to help with building. Later you may wish to consider a community eating area; a homeschool building; daycare or preschool facility; and arts, crafts, and recreation space. We could help steer you to potential funding sources for these. This site will likely have much more of a family orientation than PWC Cohousing, since many MCS folks have children who they also wish to protect from toxins. So if you discuss this and some are interested in purchasing the land and building MCS-safe housing, contact us as soon as possible at Recreation and include your telephone number. We would also appreciate your spreading the word about this project to MCS groups and individuals that you know.
