Guest guest
How does homeopathy work? http://www.portfolio.mvm.ed.ac.uk/studentwebs/session2/group43/homohow.htm (for full article, click above link) EXCERPTS : In trying to understand ‘how it works,’ it is perhaps appropriate first to consider ‘if’ it works. There is currently a lot of speculation and controversy regarding this issue. For example, is homeopathy more effective than placebo? Dr Reilly’s studies into whether homeopathy is a placebo response or not are a fine example of the type of thinking that should be emulated by people carrying out homeopathic research. In practice, if a treatment works, knowledge of the mechanisms of action is not necessary. After all, there are examples in regular medicine where mechanisms are hardly understood at all. There are evidently many ideas as to how homeopathy works. However, to assume that an infinitesimally diluted substance in an alcoholic solution has pharmacological effects would mean that essential concepts of modern science would have to be rejected. It is clear that more research is needed. From the results of trials published so far and the large scale on which homeopathy is brought into practice, this claim is justified.
