Guest guest
Modern Medicine: What we did to deserve it. (Health Humour) Jagannath Chatterjee How did modern medicine happen? We made it happen. What caused it to spread? We did. What made it so popular? We helped. Modern medicine surreptuously helped us get over the sins of unhealthy living and even promised to allow us to continue with the prohibited acts without being inconvinienced in any way. This was music to our ears burdened as we were with the consequences of our faults. There were two options before us; correct our lifestyle and get back to health with a prolonged natural detoxification process (soo boring!) or to destroy the external manifestations, push the toxins inside, take more toxins as medicines and pretend to be healthy. Modern medicine offered us the second option and we grabbed it, accustomed that we were to pushing our problems under the carpet. But today the carpet is barely visible as a tiny spot atop the mountain of problems it pretends to hide. The problems too have interacted between themselves to create more problems. They have spilled over to make more heaps without even having the excuse of a tiny fig leaf carpet to cover them. The problems have become famous, are given attractive names, and have become the fuel for the fastest growing and most profitable industry in the world. The problems have become the subject matter of researchers who look upon them as oppurtunities. Today we would not survive without the problems. The more the problems, the faster our economy grows. Unfortunately the problems hurt. They hurt us. They hurt our pockets. They hurt our productivity. They hurt our income. They hurt our intelligence. They hurt our sensibilities. They test our patience. They make our crime graph shoot through the roof. They destroy our social fabric. They make it impossible for us to grin and bear them for they sap our life, making us die in hordes. The pile up of bodies have now started to exceed the pile of problems. This is the real problem. These problems cannot become famous. They cannot be given attractive names. They can only become fuel for the undertaker industry. These problems cannot be hidden any longer, because these problems stink. They attract gory nulls and carrol-in-din-s. Detestable nosy vermins. So what do we do? We blame the natural world for these problems. Too much natural supplements are killing us. The herbalists are the culprits. Why do people take food? Let medicine be thy food. We agree. Organic food is so costly. The stay in hospitals give us the much needed break. The hospital roofs are cleaner than the homeopaths floor. The needles here hurt much less than at the accupuncturists table. The nurses are more good looking than the dour faces of the chiropracts. The hospitals even play music, better than the ones played by the reiki frauds. There is no need to exercise unlike what our yoga teacher says. You just have to lie and watch the doctors and nurses fill you up with toxins, cut you up, bombard you with x-rays, push tubes inside you, and make you pay for the ordeal. And the hospitals don't give you any false promises. Either you live with your severely aggravated disease or you die. Simple. Fair enough. The homeopaths endless questions are so tiring. Herbs are so difficult to find. And who wants to get bitten by the bees anyway when birds are so plenty at the hosps? And so modern medicine survives. It prospers. It spreads. --\ --------- jagchat01 " Our ideal is not the spirituality that withdraws from life but the conquest of life by the power of the spirit. " - Aurobindo. Mail Bring photos to life!
