Guest guest
A Sat, 4 Feb 2006 22:51:41 EST Save the Republic!/Granny D still going at at!!! Dear Friends, Not too many speakers today know that an outdoor speech to a standing crowd is quite a different thing from an indoor speech to a seated audience. But Granny D hit it right this morning in Washington, D.C. with a speech before the World Can't Wait protest on Constitution Avenue. Those of us who have traveled with her on her past walks and protests are no longer surprised when, after a particularly good truth-telling by Granny at an outdoor rally, it rains. It has happened too many times to ignore. So it did today, pouring after she spoke. Her remarks: Good morning, dear fellow Americans! Soon, we will all march to the White House, to give physical witness to our concern that America’s values lay in tatters as a result of Mr. Bush’s sociopathic behavior. I am here this morning to tell the Members of Congress that, although we march to the White House now, our hopes and hearts and expectations look backward down this street to Congress. Every Member of Congress has taken an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. But what of us? The highest office in a Republic, of course, is the citizen. Why is it that we who were fortunate enough to be citizens by way of birth do not nevertheless take an oath? Let us swear each other in today, for we have hard work ahead. Raise your right hand, if you can, if you dare, and repeat after me: I do solemnly swear (the members of the crowd responded by raising their hands and repeating) That I will support and defend The Constitution of the United States Against all enemies, foreign and domestic So help me God Now what are our duties? To sit and allow the destruction of a free democracy? (The crowd roared " No! " ) Indeed, not. To allow the rise of a dictatorship, which is the name for a state where the president calls himself commander and purposes to be above all laws? (The crowd responded, " No! " ) Indeed, not Our responsibility is clear, and our main duty now is to elect a Congress this year that will uphold its oath, incumbent or not, Democrat or not. (A great cheer went up.) If you Democrat incumbents are listening, do not think the old donkey has a skirt you can hide under to avoid doing your duty that is upon you this day, this year. We have no use for you if you will not uphold the notion that no man is above the law in this great Republic. It is time for you to demand impeachment hearings, for the President has declared war on law and the constitution, and you have no choice. You have your duty now. To adopt the harsh language of the day, you are for the Republic or you are against it, and the people are prepared to see you ridden out of town, tar and feathered and on a rail if you are against this Republic---this Republic for which so many of our sons and daughters have died, and atop whose columns all our dreams for a better world are yet inscribed. Citizens, think of the oath that our Congressmen and women have taken! For them to make excuses for this budding dictator, or to say it is far to early to talk about impeachment†" is this savvy politics or is it, to their oath, betrayal? (The crowd roared, “Betrayal!â€) Think of the oath that our Congressmen and women have taken! For them to turn the other cheek when a corruptly-elected President uses lies to start a war and kills our children, is this hesitation a calculated moderation--is it keeping one’s powder dry for a better moment--or is it, to their oath, betrayal? (The crowd roared, Betrayal!) Think of the oath that our Congressmen and women have taken! For them to go to lunch and raise their campaign dollars while a mad President orders the torture of human beings against all the world’s civilized convention, is this the way things go, or is this, to their oath, betrayal? (The crowd roared,Betrayal!€ and " Shame! " ) Congressmen and Congresswomen, you share in the crimes of a criminal President if you have gone along as his Quislings, his enablers, his cowardly house dogs. We send you to Washington to be the check. and the balance. If you will not be that, you betray your oath. You betray America and its ideals in a criminal way. You will be ushered from your offices in tar and feathers and, while I speak in metaphors, an angry America should give you pause, for an angry America does not act in metaphors. I ask my fellow citizens to take action in their own towns and at their local offices of their Members of Congress. Let us co-ordinate our actions at Tar and Feathers.org and be at their gates with our demands that they fulfill their oaths and protect our Constitution, our Republic. We are a serious nation, a serious people, upset that our Constitution is at risk from the most corrupt band of criminals ever to occupy the White House and the Congress. Our Members of Congress do not think themselves corrupt. They think that wealthy interests send them big checks because they are fans of good government. In their deep hearts, of course, they know better. They need to wake up to what they have become, before we the people come to pull them from their high horses in shame. We are not joking. We are a serious people. Members of Congress, hear me. You have your high salaries, your lifetime health care, your lifetime pensions, your free dining halls and free trips around the world and your limousines. We are used to pampering you and we will allow you all these things even now, even forever, if you will do one thing: if you will uphold your oath of office in the time of our Constitution’s great crisis. Let me propose a new law. Let me propose that it shall, under the law, be a criminal conflict of interest if a Member of Congress acts on any issue, votes on any issue, which might give the appearance of favoring any group or individual who bankrolls their political career through campaign contributions, perks, or job offers for themselves, their family or their staff. If such a law is passed, only a few minutes will expire before they will also pass the free television time and the public financing of campaigns needed to restore our Republic to its people. Let the list of those who will introduce and co-sponsor such a conflict of interest law, and who will act now to preserve our Constitution, be the only list of men and women we will support in the coming elections. And to the others, let history sweep them away, along with Mr. Abramoff and Mr. Bush and the corrupt band of traitors to our Constitution. Citizens, if you agree with the necessity of these words, shout “Save the Republic!†three times, loud and clear so they might hear us on both ends of this street of ours. Thank you all! ------------------------------- ---------- NewEnglandReformSchool.org http://newenglandreformschool.org Cobb Meadow Road Dublin, NH 03444 USA>>>>
