ZURICH (AFX) - Roche Holding AG said new evidence suggests its Tamiflu drug is

effective against the currently circulating H5N1 avian influenza virus when

administered early.

This is according to an animal study presented today at a conference, First

Pandemic of the 21st Century a Central Role for Antivirals, in London.

The results suggest that Tamiflu can prevent H5N1 mortality in animals; however,

further studies are needed to identify the optimal dose of Tamiflu administered

later (24 and 48 hours) after infection with the virulent H5N1 virus.
