First, here is Pete Hardin's [ http://www.themilkweed.com ] memo to me

about the issue:

FDA's Nasty Proposal for " Mystery Milk " (and aspartame) for

ice cream.

Enclosed is our Nov 2005 issue. We're hitting hard on the FDA proposal

that would change ice cream standards. FDA, following the ice cream

manufacturers' lobby, wants to put " milk from species other than cows "

in our ice cream. Also, FDA has nebulous language in the proposal by

which the agency hopes to defuse the Aspartame/NutraSweet advisory

label on the front panel of the package.

Betty...HELP!!! Would you please advise your members via your Web site

of these dangerous proposals. Consumers deserve better than " mystery

milk " and undisclosed Aspartame/NutraSweet in their ice cream.

The public comment period ends on December 27, 2005. We have full

details, including " talking points " and an entire printing of FDA's

proposal in the Federal Register available at our Web site:

http://www.themilkweed.com

Thank you for your help.

Register your comments with FDA (Docket #2003-P-0132)

Upset with the proposal changes in ice cream regulations? Contact FDA

before December 27, 2005 and let the agency know your opinion on some

or all of these proposal changes that would " dumb down " the quality,

taste and safety of our ice cream.

Objection #5: Regs would subvert aspartame/NutraSweet Labeling FDA's

proposed ice cream regulations would apparently do away with rules

that now require notice to consumers on the front panel of a food

product that the product contains Aspartame/NutraSweet. That

artificial sweetener, a neurological toxin, is one of the most

controversial food additive issues in the history of U.S. food safety

regulations. A growing number of consumers avoid products with

Aspartame/NutraSweet. Consumption of ice cream and other frozen

desserts could be harmed, if current Aspartame labeling rulees are

disguised.

FDA states in the Federal Register: " If the food is subject to the

requirements of paragraph © (2) (ii) of this section or if it

contains an artificial flavor not simulating the characterizing

flavor, the label shall also bear the words, " artificial flavor added... "

1) BEWARE! This language opens the door for disguising the presence of

Aspartame/NutraSweet. FDA lists Aspartame as an artificial flavor.

This language would take away current rules that require listing of

Aspartame on the front panel of ice cream packaging. Aspartame is a

dangerous neurotoxin with many recognized negative health effects!

-------

The aspartame documentary, Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World,

www.docworkers.com has just been updated to contain the case of Cheryl

Kemptner who was given a bracelet in the hospital that said: " no

aspartame " . As many, the dietitians, American Dietetic Assn, often

called Monsanto's media flacks run the food department and push

aspartame. Sick people go to hospitals to get well and are fed this

neurotoxin, even diabetics. And, of course, aspartame has caused an

epidemic of diabetes as it can precipitate it, and as diabetic

specialist H. J. Roberts, M.D., says in his medical text, Aspartame

Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, http://www.sunsentpress.com or

1-800-827-7991, it can also simulate and aggravate diabetic

retinopathy and neuropathy, destroys the optic nerve, causes diabetics

to go into convulsions and even interacts with insulin. Aspartame

itself damages the mitochondria and as Dr. James Bowen says interacts

with ALL drugs and vaccines: http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_interacts.htm

In the case of Cheryl Kemptner she was given Crystal Lite Lemon aid

and became a Code Blue, almost losing her life. This regulation could

mean many would lose their lives. Aspartame is a chemical

hypersensitization agent and interacts with other unsafe sweeteners

like Splenda, a chlorocarbon poison, vaccines and other toxins. And

people getting off aspartame who accidentally get some usually react

very seriously. One man some years ago got off aspartame and was given

one cookie that had aspartame in it. His heart was beating so fast

they had to stop it, to save his life. This is how serious this new

regulation is, and it must be stopped by all means.

While I'm not typing in the entire article in the Milkweed, there are

other things to consider, and here are the headings:

Objection 1: Other Species' Milk In Ice Cream: FDA proposes, " The use

of milk from source animals other than cows in the making of ice cream

and frozen custard and sherbet. "

Objection #2: Want MPCs In Your Ice Cream? FDA proposes that a broad,

undefined bunch of dairy " ingredients " be used in ice cream: " The use

of any safe and suitable milk-derived ingredients in the manufacture

of frozen desserts. "

Objection #3: Not All Dairy Ingredients Are The Same! FDA's proposed

ice cream standards assume a lot, and are in fact, contradictory: FDA

states in the Federal Register, " HCA asserts that the milk derived

ingredients in the proposed categories are nutritionally and

functionally equivalent when used in frozen desserts.... "

In truth, not all dairy ingredients -- particularly proteins -- are

the same. The same FDA document states, IICA assets that whey proteins

have a higher nutritional value than other milk proteins and high

protein digestibility than milk. " Thus, by IICA's own words, not all

dairy proteins are nutritionally the same. But IICA wants FDA to treat

various categories of milk-derived ingredients as if they are the same.

1) Not all milk-derived proteins have the same biological

availability. For example, products containing MPCs probably have less

biologically-available protein than other forms of dairy products,

such as fresh milk and whey. Dairy protein sources that have been

dried may have an annealing (hardening) of the proteins, which reduces

nutritional availability.

2) A study has shown that MPCs, for example, do not have 100%

solubility in cheese manufacture. That suggests that MPCs would not

have the same solubility as certain other dairy ingredients in ice

cream manufacture. The result could be varying taste, texture and

nutritional value.

Objection #4: Putting Goats & Sheep Milk in Ice Cream is Fraud!

FDA's proposed ice cream regulations make the following statements:

" ...no economic harm or consumer deception would result from the

proposed amendments. "

" The basic nature of the food is directly related to consumer

expectations and beliefs about the food. "

U.S. consumers hold the historic image that ice cream is made from

cow's milk:

1) A proposal to substitute other species' milks - such as from goats,

sheep, water buffalo and yaks - is pure consumer fraud. Many instances

of ice cream consumption - such as away from home - have no way to

provide consumers with specific information about whether their ice

cream contains ingredients which they would find objectionable. Thus,

if consumers were dining out and wanted ice cream, they would have no

way to determine of other species' milk was contained in their dessert.

2) Consumers' expectations and beliefs about ice cream would be

shattered if FDA allowed other species' milks to be used in ice cream

manufacture.

Remember there has been new studies on aspartame showing that it

causes malignant brain tumors, leukemia, lymphoma, kidney cancer,

cancer of the cranial peripheral nerves, and is a multipotential

carcinogen. http://www.wnho.net/new_aspartame_studies.htm Dr. Russell

Blaylock author of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills,

http://www.russellblaylockmd.com says mothers should be terrified.

This study shows these cancers are dose related. And the history of

aspartame shows that the FDA has always known aspartame is a

carcinogen and has done nothing about it.

http://www.wnho.net/whopper.htm Also read:

http://www.wnho.net/recipe_for_death.htm They ought to call the FDA

the Food and Death Association because aspartame has caused millions

of deaths the world over from the tumors, degenerative diseases, and

other horrors triggered by this deadly neurotoxin. Look what its done

to our children in triggering all types of birth defects, ADD, ADHD,

autism, Tourettes, mental retardation you name it. The FDA is

responsible for unsafe food and drugs the world over because aspartame

has been rubber stamped around the globe because of them.

Efforts throughout the country is now to get it out of our schools:

http://www.wnho.net/alabama_boe_meeting.htm

Aspartame is an illegal drug and violates state and federal statutes

on adulteration: http://www.wnho.net/gov_martini.htm

Please everyone who receives this spread the information to your list.

Also, today the Artificially Sweetened Times, 24 page booklets on

aspartame for distribution, is being updated with all the new

information. You can get them from the Idaho Observer, http://

www.idaho-observer.com in time to mail with letters to family and

friends. Remember at this time of year there are so many parties with

products made with aspartame. Be sure to get enough to distribute to

your offices, places of worship, clubs, schools, etc. Save a life today.

You can keep up-to-date by subscribing to the Aspartame Information

List on http://www.wnho.net, banner on front page. Many of the

government documents are on http:// www.dorway.com
