Britain's war crimes?

Published: 6 Dec 2005

By: Channel 4 News

Amid reports of America's secret torture flights we have an exclusive

interview with one of Britain's top judges who warns that both the US

and British governments may be guilty of war crimes - and that Blair should stand up to Lawless America.

The British government could be guilty of war crimes. That is the

astonishing verdict of one of the country's top Law Lords, responding

to the accusations that the CIA has been transporting detainees across

Europe.

Lord Steyn has told Channel 4 News that, if it's proved that the US IS

flying detainees around the globe to secret 'black sites' and the

British authorities are aware of it, then they are as guilty as if

they were committing the offence themselves.

His comments come as the US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice,

starts her five day tour across Europe. After spending the day with

the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, this evening she's in Romania.

>>Watch the report - Lucy Manning reports on the day's events

>>Watch the interview - We spoke to one of Britain's most senior Law

Lords - Lord Steyn.

with Lord Steyn.
