Guest guest
Hello, Can anyone tell me if Magnesium Ascorbate is ever used for IV Vitmain C? Also, is plain ascorbic acid vitamin C ever used? I know that most of the Vit C gurus seem to favor Sodium Ascorbate Vit C but I've found that I can't tolerate all of the sodium in high dose NaAsc. Thank you for any input. Joe
Guest guest
Hi Joe, sodium ascorbate is used for IVs because it's got a more similar composition to blood, which is also saline. Plain ascorbic acid shouldn't be used in an IV form. That's adding acid directly into your blood. I'm not sure about the mineral ascorbates. But you should be fine with sodium ascorbate when delivered intravaneously. Guest guest
Hi David, Thank you for the reply. They say that IV sodium ascorbate doesn't cause diarrheah so maybe I would do OK with it. The effect of oral sodium ascorbate when I got loose bowels due to too much of it was not good. The loose bowels made me lose potassium and probably magnesium and the NaAsc supplied quite a bit of sodium, so it threw me out of balance. Guest guest
You can make sodium ascorbate by adding baking soda to ascorbic acid powder and water. After it fizzes it has changed to sodium ascorbate. Not sure if is recommended for IV, but that the way I take my Vit C orally. Vester Moderators Note: It is not the way to use for IV. IV solutions need to be of a certain consistency to not disrupt the electrolite levels of the blood. Anyone wanting to know how IV vitamin C solution should be made can go to http://www.doctoryourself.com and he has posted instructions on how to make an IV vitamin C solution. It is also in our archives.
