Guest guest
<<... and am at a loss as to what to give my kids and myself to drink as a milk substitute. I am already so deficient with my calcium, but I don't want to us to gain calcium while losing zinc. I don't want cow milk, and now I am learning that soy milk is wrong too, but for different reasons. Could someone out there help me figure this out? Julie>> In " Eat Fat, Lose Fat " by Mary Enig and Sally Fallon, there is a recipe for a coconut milk tonic that they recommend to the dairy intolerant. It contains the same amount of calories and calcium as an equivalent amount of whole milk. 1 can whole coconut milk 2 1/4 cups water 2 T maple syrup 1 t pure vanilla extract 1 t dolomite powder (very cheap-I got mine at Vitamin Shoppe) Mix all ingredients together in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, and heat until warm and dolomite is dissolved. Chill and keep refrigerated and drink as you would milk. Above recipe makes 4 cups.
