Hello Everbody:

After a week or more of trying to get some decent samples together, and a week

of waiting after I turned them in, I finally got my FOB results----Negative! No

Finding of Blood in my stools. That's a major hurdle over, and a relief, but my

symptoms, though not quite as bad as they were, aren't gone, and they're still

uncomfortable, and a little troubling. The lab technician advised me to make an

appointment for a follow-up, and I almost did, but at the last minute I decided

not to. I didn't think there was much that the doctor could or would do about

it, and it would lead into the usual " You have anxiety and need psychiatric

treatment and drugs " route, which I don't care, for many complex reasons, to go

on.

KAT: I read your article. Who wrote it? Do you have an author, or a

naturopath whom you principally base your understanding on? This isn't by any

means to dismiss the article or your other advice, but no, I can't say I

" understand " it, as I don't have the background to. It could be 100% true, but

I don't know enough about bio-chemistry, physiology, etc., etc. to really and

truly understand it. But I'm open to seriously and respectfully consider just

about any theories I can that might help.

I was initially thrilled about the recommendation of aspergillus, but when I

looked it up on Google, I got very confused. Their definition of it wasn't as

something enzymes are cultured on, but a fungus that people get that makes them

sick. Can any of these enzymes still have aspergillus on them and infect me if

I ingest them? Here's the website I looked at, but admittedly, only briefly:

www.aspergillus.man.ac.uk/

I looked up aspergillus enzymes on Froogle and found at least one product. Is

there any brand you would particularly recommend?

On the use of coconut oil, from www.heart.kumu.org/chol.html:

" A national consumer education organization warned that a medium size bag of

buttered popcorn sold at movie theaters may have more saturated fat than a

breakfast of bacon and eggs, a large hamburger with french fries for lunch and a

steak dinner with all the trimmings. Sound impossible? Movie theater popcorn is

typically popped in coconut or palm oil, extremely high in saturated fat " .

Any comments?

ALOBAR: Also from the above cited website:

" Psyllium based supplements, for example, can cause some people to have

diarrhea, stomach cramps and a bloated feeling. Using psyllium instead of eating

fiber- rich foods can cause some people to depend on a daily dose to keep their

bowels moving normally. Psyllium is mostly dietary fiber, but a low-fat

vegetarian diet will give you all the fiber you need for reducing cholesterol

and to maintain normal bowel function " .

What's in your Yerba Prima Colon cleanse? Is that a brand name? What's

inulin. Would you consider these safer and more effective that psyllium. Do

you disagree with the above claim that psyllium causes dependency? My stools

seemed be getting a bit loose, even when I decreased my teaspoon of psyllium to

every other day.

ROBIN: Thanks for your e-mail. As you can see I've been to the doctor.

Generally, they have a tendency to suspect my symptoms are psychosomatic. I

have practical, spiritual, and philosophical doubts about psychiatry,

psychology, etc. The grinding of the flax sounds like a bit of a chore, but I

guess you could say that to heal myself, I can't be so lazy. That may be true.

If I'd asked for a colonoscopy, I'm sure my doctor would have thought it

unnecessary.

BEGUM: Thanks for the info on the herb websites.

Phobias are difficult to control. I don't just wantonly wallow in them. In

our society, the papers, the TV, the radio, is constantly screaming: CANCER,

CANCER, CANCER! I try very hard to rise above my fears, to be detached toward

them, but sometimes, they creep up on you, especially when you're having strange

pains and discomforts. I know it's irrational, but if you've never had

something like it, it's hard to appreciate how hard it is. Looking back over my

life, I've had hypochondriacal tendencies even in my boyhood.

What I'm trying to do now, is, little by little, learn more about how to get

and stay healthy, but that hasn't been easy either, with a million contrary

theories on how to do that out there. But it's the therapy I've chosen.

Thanks to anybody who's e-mailed me I may have forgotten. Any advice from

anybody else would be appreciated.

James
