Guest guest
SSRI-Research@ Thu, 10 Nov 2005 20:38:19 -0500 [sSRI-Research] TeenScreen - stop this mental health screening program Things that you can do to help stop this mental health screening program called " TeenScreen " . First, get informed on exactly what this program is all about. Go to: http://www.psychsearch.net/teenscreen.html Did you know that 9 out of 10 patients that go to see a psych end up on drugs? Did you know that 24% of the kids that are referred from TeenScreen end up on drugs? Multiply that figure by how many kids there are in the U.S. (as TeenScreen's goal is to screen every child in the U.S.) and you find that the pharmaceutical companies stand to make BILLIONS EACH YEAR with their new found " consumers " . Second, forward these e-mails far and wide to everyone you know. Third, ask your school districts. " Do you have any mental health screening at any of the schools? " . You may call, write or send e-mails. You can usually find your Principal's, Superintendent's and School Board e-mail addresses, mailing address and phone numbers on the school website. Most schools have a website, they may have a button that says " Contact Us " , click on that. Keep in mind that we have run across the fact that principals, school boards and even superintendents, had no knowledge that this screening was taking place in their own school. It may be needed to send a couple of e-mails out or make more then one phone call, include the nurse's office if possible. Please let me know of ANY responses you get and from whom. Fourth, If you have a website or know someone that does, put a link to: http://www.psychsearch.net/teenscreen.html on the website. The purpose for this is to knock TeenScreen's own website off of the number one spot. By getting OUR website into that number one spot we will have more coverage and reach more people. This is MEGA important! Fifth, after getting informed on TeenScreen yourself, write a letter to your school district and inform THEM about the dangers of this program. Please let me know which schools you have enlightened! If you need help on what to write, just ask. Sixth, if you are interested in REALLY impinging you can write letters to editors. E-mail me and I can fill you in on how this is done as we write to key areas. This can be done VERY part-time and can take as little as 10 to 15 minutes or you can join the ranks of Master Letter Writer and send as many letters to the editors as we have need for! Seventh, TALK IT UP! Everywhere you go let others know. School football games, the grocery store, Mother's Club, blogs, chat boards and forums, PTA meetings, school board meetings........... DON'T BE SHY! The more that is informed the less chance TeenScreen has and you may just save a life. Eighth, if you or someone you know has children in the public school system, go here and print a copy of this " Parental Informed Consent Notice " : http://www.beverlye.com/consent_20000920.html A copy should be put in your child's personnel folder at the school, send copies to the teachers that work with your child, the Principal and the nurse's office.
