The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy

Back in 1998 Hillary Clinton was widely pilloried for talking about a

'vast right-wing conspiracy' intent on bringing her husband down.

 

As far as I can tell, the recent revelations are showing more and more

every day that she was entirely correct, and that the conspiracy is

much, much more powerful than most of us ever imagined.

 

Just one quick example: Richard Mellon Scaife, whose deep pockets

funded non-stop attacks on William Jefferson Clinton, is also a

primary financial sponsor of the Project for a New American Century

and the American Enterprise Institute. Michael Ledeen is a friend of

Scaife's who works for AEI.

 

Ledeen, a prominent conservative writer and the author of a book

taking a positive view of fascism, a regular consultant to Karl Rove

and Dick Cheney, has also been connected to a fascist group in Italy

called P2. Italy's current prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, who

Ledeen has lost no opportunity to defend in the pages of National

Review Online, was a member of that group.

 

There is now quite a plausible line of thought to the effect that

Ledeen, Berlusconi, and others were part of a conspiracy to forge the

Niger memorandum, which was part of the evidence used to justify the

massively immoral, wasteful, and ineffective war the United States now

finds itself embroiled in in Iraq.

 

Meanwhile, Scaife's and Ledeen's friends at the PNAC are Bush's

foreign policy team: Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, etc., men who wanted

the war before they were in office and who now have it.

 

The 'vast right wing conspiracy' Hillary was talking about appears to

have been far more than just some disgruntled billionaires paying

everyone with a beef about Bill Clinton to come clean, in other words.

 

What it appears to be is a well-connected international network of

modern fascists, who are trying to destroy democracy, human rights,

freedom, all over the world while trying to reduce the vast bulk of

humanity to perpetual serfdom. Connections like the ones I quickly

traced above are everywhere between these people.

 

And they are winning. The only thing protecting us from them right

now, insofar as we are protected at all, is inertia. Those of us lucky

enough to live in countries where there is still some reasonable

distribution of wealth and personal freedom are still essentially

skating off what was left to us by the architects of European social

democracy and Franklin D. Roosevelt. And that wealth and freedom is

vanishing as we speak in the United States of America.

 

We have to wake up and fight now. Hillary was right. There really is a

conspiracy, and it doesn't just embarrass enemy politicians over

sexual peccadilloes: it kills hundreds of thousands of people not for

freedom and democracy, and not even just for money, but for the sake

of universal fascism. The great right-wing conspiracy is real, and

it's in charge.
