FYI

The recent $5 million gift from Johnson & Johnson (the parent company

of Janssen Pharmaceuticals) was not awarded to the department of child

psychiatry at Columbia as reported in earelier Infomail,

but rather to the department of Neuroscience, headed by Dr. John Mann.

See: http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/about/defining_the_future

Below is the correct citation linking Janssen Pharmaceutical and the

Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Columbia University.

This three day colloquium was a collaborative effort by industry-

influenced stakeholders in academia and government who have embarked

on an aggressive TeenScreen promotional campaign.

This pharmaceutical sponsored colloquium had dual goals which a

gullible press has failed to discern. The first goal was to promote a

myth through selected media-- that large numbers of American children

suffer from undetected, mental illness.

The second goal was to SELL TeenScreen as a valid suicide detection

/prevention tool.

Both of these claims are pure myth created inorder to increase the

market of drugs that have failed to demonstrate a benefit justifying

the risks of harm.
