My brother and myself got a nice garden growing, corn, carrots, okra, beans, and the like. Problem grasshoppers and ants ruining our crops. We do not want to use insect ides, what natural ways can we keep these little buggers away.

Mantises!

You can pick them up at most garden centers.

Also i read somwhere that lizards (hornd toads?) just make sure your

gaden has water for them somewhere. I have the same problem and need

to get to garden center for mantises. My only worry is that the cat

does not eat them!

Also, you can check seeds of change for great garden ideas and they

have a board too. I can send you the link off-line as it is

list policy not to post/promote it.

The only thing that I've used in my garden to control pests, besides buying praying matises and lady bugs, is soap. Other than that I just live by the philiosophy of "Grow enough for everyone!" LOL! Anyway, that's just my way of saying that I'm obviously not a sophisticated gardener. If you find a good organic method of dealing with this, please share! :)

How do you use soap in stopping pests? I have a small plot that I'd

like to keep pest free.

Just spray soapy water on your plants! Shower time! LOL! :)

You can buy soap for just this purpose at any garden store, but I bet it's not organic. I think you can get some good stuff through Seeds of Change or other organic gardening stores.

other uses.

Our roses had/have an aphid problem, Dr' B's works great.

A mantis will stay in your garden?

I've never heard of that! Wonder if they can survive in MN.
