Im relocating to Las Vegas and was told the water there was hard. Are

there health concerns I should know about? If so, what can I do or

take to keep myself and my son healthy?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Hi Liza,

Here is the definition of water "hardness" from the EPA web site:

a characteristic of water caused by various salts, calcium, magnesium and iron (e.g. bicarbonates, sulfates, chlorides and nitrates) hazardous waste which because of it quantity, concentration, or physical, chemical, or infectious characteristics, may cause mortality (death), injury, or serious illness.

So essentially, hard water has inorganic stuff in it and you'll want to find a good method to clean it up, especially for cooking and drinking. Distillation is preferred, reverse osmosis is second best.

If you are moving into a house, look into a water filtration system. A

water softener or something of the like. (I don’t know the health

detriments if there are any for a water softener) Don’t drink the water

at all. Cook with distilled water or filtered water. If your moving into an

apartment, get a water filter for your shower head, as the hard water will

wreck havoc on your hair and skin. Be prepared to replace silverware and metal

pans often if you use a dishwasher and do not dry your dishes, it leaves a film

on EVERYTHING and eats away at the metal. Basicaly hard water sucks. Ha ha.

Thank you for the information and suggestions. I think I will look

into purchasing a distiller and the shower filter. Can anyone point

me in the right direction?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Liza,

Sears has a good water distiller. It's the brand that Doc recommended and quite a few of us here on the group (including myself) have them as well. It's the "Deluxe Water Purifier".

I don't have a shower filter, nor do I remember a conversation about that on the group lately, so I can't help you there. Sorry.

Hi everyone. Thanks again for the help. I looked online (Sears)I

didnt find the Deluxe Water Purifier, but will go to the store after

I move. Regarding the shower filter I was told I should get one

because the water will do a number on our hair and skin...This hard

water is getting to be a pain! LOL
