Makes a good strong tincture everytime. Let us know your results. We love this stuff ya know.!....Mary O - Waymon Cowley herbal remedies Monday, May 24, 2004 4:25 PM Herbal Remedies - Tinctures (Again) I've noticed that the usual percent alcohol is 50%. Are there times when a smaller percentage is appropriate? Also what about the ratio of herb to solvent? 4:1 is what I've seen for dried herbs. When it comes to fresh it appears to be 1:1. I'm experimenting with a couple of tinctures with a 12 percent alcohol. They're "cooking" now and soon will be done. One is garlic and the other onion. For the "booster" I've used ginger with the onion and harbenero with the garlic. Also I've got dandelion going in a 4:1 ratio with the fresh herb, leaf and root. I started this before I noticed the 1:1 ratio for the fresh herb. I appreciate all comments. Waymon
