Guest guest
Create a space they can play that is "off limits" to you. They can make a mess. Next, go to a room and make a complete mess of it. Completely trash it, not necessarily destroying anything but you can if you want. Make a big mess. Then clean it up. Do this over and over again until you feel OK with having messes. As far as the kids are concerned, make sure they clean up any mess they make. No matter what, make them do it. If you have to help them then do so but continue to insist that they help you with general areas of the house, like trash and dishes etc. Who cares what kind of job they do as long as they help. Remember as well that these are children, they will make messes unless taught otherwise. Make it a game of it and reward it!! That which you reward you get, that which you penalize you don't get. If you penalize something they do well then you will stop them from doing it. If you penalize them leaving messes then those messes will stop. Very light penalties work wonders just as very light rewards do as well. Guest guest
I just wanted to state the one making the most of the messes are my 8yr old and 13 year old. I dont get upset about the 1year old cause I know he cant pick up all his toys. But how do you get the older kids to help. And to top it off my daughter is so hyper all the time. last night she had a friend spend the night and when we were all finally asleep I heard her SCREAMing (my 8yrold) because she didnt want her friend that she invited over for a sleepover in her room. She wanted her room to herself. My husband had to move her friend downstairs to sleep. She does things like this all the time. I had to litterly drag her into the bathroom cause I couldnt carry a 75 lb girl being only 5feet myself. and tell her to change her attitude yada yada. Everday around here is like constant chaos. I have about 4 to 5 anxiety attacks aday, maybe more and shake uncontrollable. Sometimes it goes so bad I faint on the floor. Thats why yesterday I finally went to the urgent care. I was about ready to drop my kids off and leave. I know that sounds so bad, We were up visiting my mom for easter. 4 days, I couldnt even have one conversation finished with my mom, WE couldnt watch ONE movie. I am about ready to buy my daughter some of this Kids calm stuff from the herbal store. Its the only thing I can think of to do . I tried EVERY herbal out there to help calm my panic and anxiety attacks but nothing works. And taking sleeping herbs on a daily basis for about 2 years now arent working either. Gosh sorry for rambling. I just wanted to say the baby is easy compared to the other two Deana Office Manager wrote: > Create a space they can play that is " off limits " to you. Guest guest
Have you checked out Bach flower remedies? They are specifically for negative mental states. You take them daily, and I would recommend that your daughter take them too. This is not normal behavior that you are describing. I have used them for myself and my children and they are wonderful. Guest guest
Hi Deana, Before you start adding things, an assuming you've gotten your family onto a safe and organic style kind of healthy no junk food diet, have you looked into your environment? What is the air quality in your house like? What is the light quality in your house like? Your daughter might be reacting to over stimulation from an environment that others normally aren't sensitive to. Perhaps this could be explained as an emotional version of fibromyalgia. I'm not saying that " its in your head " . I'm suggesting that perhaps your daughter is noticing things that others aren't sensitive enough to notice. Enviromental factors besides foods can trigger this. Penel
Guest guest
Hi Deana, I had the same problems you are having about 5 years ago, plus depression on top of that. I read a book that changed my life and lost 30 pounds, I basically found out that my family and myself couldn't not eat sugar, I was killing us. It is alot more complicated than that, it's not a diet but a life change. You are what you eat. And when you change your biochemistry, everything changes. I don't know if I can tell you the books, on the list, there are 3 plus one for children. But if you want to email me I will be more than happy to tell you. I hope that is okay, to say. But, I have been where you are and you don't have to stay that way. Guest guest
Thank you for this data. We need not post all this on the list but if your ok with this then fine. 1. You need to sit down with the family and have yourself and daddy explain to the kids where everything comes from. How daddy goes to work and money comes in and this happens because he went to school, worked very hard to learn what he does and did it for the time he's done it and earned this money. From this money comes the car, house, food, clothes, toys, mommies and daddies food, clothes and other things. Where the money comes from and where it goes to. This needs to be explained thoroughly. Explain how mommy helps to make the house orderly and ready for when daddy comes home, how mommy takes care of different things daddy doesn't have time to handle and that mommy feeds and helps teach the kids etc. 2. You need to make a chart of rules for the house. Go over these rules and explain them to your children. Do this just after explaining what you guys each do. Make sure the kids agree to the rules (do not force this). If they do not agree with it then find a compromise. This can get weird but keep in mind that as adults and as parents you have the right to your own space and your own time. So if your life is being interrupted by your children in away that is overly upsetting you need to insist that there be a rule about having penalties or even if you like a spanking. time out, cleaning job, whatever. Depending on what state your in you may not have the right to spank your child. So check this out. 3. Set the penalties list. I know families that have 5 minute time outs, others that use spankings, others that simply put their kids out of the house (though this doesn't work the best) etc. For kids that cannot for themselves make changes needed and refuse to cooperate I have found that spanking works best, though daddy may need to do this. Always set a goal for the spanking penalty to be abolished if you use this method. Draw a line and stick to it. 4. Whatever the problem with the child remember that the ADULT IS THE PROBLEM!!! This means that you are either not controlling them and have the results or you are over controlling them and that is the result. Figure which. Talk to the children and find out what they would like. Let them know what you would like. Etc. This is just the beginning but if you would like some serious help with this there are places that will give you the tools that will help you through this with flying colors. I hope this begins to help. Just remember that adults have rights too. Don't let kids push you around. They are not owed anything but your willingness to do the best you can by them. That's it. The rest is owed to you, you HAVE to let them pay it back, if the try and help you clean but make a mess, THANK THEM FOR THEIR HELP AND ACCEPT IT!! Then later when alls said and done and they're asleep do whatever you like to correct it. If they come home with the dirtiest, scroungiest looking flower dripping dust and dirt and bugs you MUST ACCEPT IT. This is an effort to give back. If you do not let kids give back then you'll never have kids that are sane. So think about it. Everything I've said here is in writing and delivered in courses! My wife does them and loves them!! Guest guest
Hi Deana, I do hope that Zeb's information gives you a place to start and helps you. I just wanted to vouch for Zeb's credentials - he has MANY years experience working with kids and even some kids with difficult problems that were causing chaos in the house. In all cases there was a good kid in there somewhere, and he's always been able to pull that out. It always involves coaching of the parents, though, too, because as Zeb says in his email, it's a group problem. It's not just the kids that are to blame. Anyway, I hope this all helps you. I do understand how insane life can be with something like this going on. Guest guest
I am really having a hard time with the changes in diet. I cant remember what sugar I am supposed to buy to replace refined sugar? Also - I am lost as to where to start. I can change MY eating habits but the rest of the family says the food taste gross- then I get stuck in this rut of what to buy at the grocery store and how to put it together to make a meal ( Its really getting me stressed) Our family eats meat and will always- were do I start? We wont eat soy - I cant get anyone to, but they do eat some vegan things. What do you do? - Just take family favorites and substitute?? We eat alot of slow cooker meals like pepper steak over rice, spaghetti, ghoulash, roasts and fish. So what changes can I do - I really need a guide Sugar - change to ?? Organic meat and fish Is there a guide on the net or a book that teaches you? I need something like converting family lifestyle for dummies or something lol. I also threw my herbs out accept the valerian -- it was getting out of hand I had about 18 different bottles of herbs I also try to never buy things with blue or red dye Deana Sherry wrote: > Hi Deana, > I had the same problems you are having about 5 years ago, plus > depression on top of that. She is in need of lots and lots of attention. We do things together everday but its never enough for her. Is thi normal? Guest guest
Deana, It is very difficult to guide you, as everyone eats different. My suggestions to you: 1. stop panicking!!! 2. start with the diet you already have, and change one thing: example: use the same foods but buy organic instead of commercial. This will be a HUGE step of improvement, but won't stress you out too much, as everyone is still getting the foods they are used to but healthier versions! Just take it one step at a time!! Once you're happy with that one step, and it's well integrated and not causing any problems, look for another step and do that. As far as sugar is concerned, the healthiest is raw organic honey, stevia or organic maple syrup. But here again, do what you can. If you can't get everyone to stop eating sugar, then start by changing it to organic sugar. At least 100% better than the commercial stuff. Hope this helps some love Lisa - Deana herbal remedies Sunday, April 03, 2005 10:40 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Re: Herbal Remedies - I am really having a hard time with the changes in diet. I cant remember what sugar I am supposed to buy to replace refined sugar? Also - I am lost as to where to start. I can change MY eating habits but the rest of the family says the food taste gross- then I get stuck in this rut of what to buy at the grocery store and how to put it together to make a meal ( Its really getting me stressed)Our family eats meat and will always- were do I start? We wont eat soy - I cant get anyone to, but they do eat some vegan things. What do you do? - Just take family favorites and substitute?? We eat alot of slow cooker meals like pepper steak over rice, spaghetti, ghoulash, roasts and fish.So what changes can I do - I really need a guideSugar - change to ??Organic meat and fishIs there a guide on the net or a book that teaches you? I need something like converting family lifestyle for dummies or something lol. I also threw my herbs out accept the valerian -- it was getting out of hand I had about 18 different bottles of herbsI also try to never buy things with blue or red dyeDeana
Guest guest
You needn't answer me these questions. They're for your own review. <snip> > > What is the air quality in your house like? > > /We have one of those little meters that says if the > house is too humid > or too dry. It always stays in the comfort zone. Are your laundry products scented or unscented? What about other possibly scented products you use in the house like shampoos, dish soaps or so called air fresheners? > > What is the light quality in your house like? > > /Our light is mostly from outside- we have the blinds wide > open each day. At night we keep the lights low./ But what kind of light is that? Is it total spectum lighting? Fluorescent or incandescent? A lot has been written about the quality of light and how it effects us emotionally. In the winter we tend not to get enough sunlight to produce enough vitamin D. This can set off a whole string of health adventures. <snip> > /I think my daughter has been effected by ny distress > over the years - everyday was quite chaotic especially > during the winter months when life gets a bit > depressing because of the lighting. I suffer from noise > sensitivity and light sensitivity I think she may also./ Perhaps you might want to research Asperger Syndrome. I'm not suggesting that you or your daughter have it. Some of the coping strategies that people who have Asperger Syndrome might work for you though. Good luck with your journey, Penel
