Guest guest
My opinion is that it is the parent's job to help their child learn...whether it is school learning or life learning...we can't leave it up to some teacher that may or may not agree with our personal way of doing things...to teach our children what we want them to learn. This is a HUGE issue with me...even before I started homeschooling my child...I just can't stand when people feel that what they get at school is good enough...including all of the bad stuff...and the influences they get from other kids whose parents don't pay an ounce of attention to them either....it truly irks me to hear that a child does not do their homework on a regular basis. This to me says the child is not just neglected...but abused...and I don't say that meaning physically...but neglect is a form of abuse...and that is what is happening if a child continuously comes to school without having done their homework. If I were a teacher...I would end upr reporting each child that had this problem....if after meeting with the parents once or twice...the situation did not change...because that is abuse...no child should be so neglected that no one cares whether he completes his work or not. Maybe this is harsh...and excessive of me...but I am an extreme kind of gal when it comes to my child. I know most moms are when it comes to their children. My son has had it tougher than most...he lost his father when he was 6 years old...his grandparents are loonies...(his father's parents...not mine...very long story)...and had many other very hard things for a child to go through...and he has turned out incredible!! I actually had someone tell me the other day that he was such a great kid! It is always good to hear! Even a substitute that was at the school for one day...couldn't say enough wonderful things about him...and how proud I should be to have such an incredible kid. So I know I have done something right...even being a single mother...which is one tough job!! ) Caroline Caroline...I know what you mean .You are doing a good job . Guest guest
Caroline...I agree it is the parents job alright . I think what we are looking at here is two fold - lack of interest/ neglect by the parents , but , then one has to also look into the REASONS for this . Unfortunately , many parents today lack a full education in the basics themselves due to the decline of our Education System , and CAN NOT help their kids .This manifests itself as disinterest . I tutor adults and ESL and you would be AMAZED at what has been passed as a High School Grad .Well actually YOU probably wouldn't be amazed ! LOL I don't think you are harsh , you have fine standards . Some times the source of the problem is not in plain sight , only the symptoms ! Don't we know that HERE !....Mary O - Caroline herbal remedies Thursday, May 20, 2004 12:44 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Re: Lisa Carter/ Caroline My opinion is that it is the parent's job to help their child learn...whether it is school learning or life learning...we can't leave it up to some teacher that may or may not agree with our personal way of doing things...to teach our
