Guest guest
Lol.. my hubby is cynical also, but not of herbal or natural things, but the medical profession... I mean to a fault! In December the wire dog run our siberian husky is on wrapped around Bob's finger and cut it right off when the dog bolted after one of the barn cats..errrrggg makes me sick thinking of it.. Anyway, he's standing there saying, man this hurts...do you think I could get away with a big ole' bandaid? I'm screaming (and trying not to throw up) "get in the car!"..lol..we're 30 minutes to the nearest hospital.. Duh. You know, I didn't find his finger in the yard until like a week later..gag:-( He's had a lot of bad experiences with medical Dr.s when he was a football player, lots of unneccessary surgeries and drugs in his opinion just to keep their investment on the field. I have made it really clear that if I'm to be the "homemaker" in this partnership that it also entails caring for our family's health. I of course weigh all the options, prices, I research everything we consume. But unless it's just too cost prohibitive at the time (which is what is holding him back on the cleanse for now), I have to have the authority to make these changes. Which I try to do enthusiastically and with a big fat smile on my face.:-) It's a tight rope walk sometimes, but how can he say no to say, spirulina ,when my son is always begging for "an incredible hulk smoothie",lol..(you know, cause it'll make him strong,lol..) Ack! 30 thou??? for a truck? Oh my... My house and property cost 40! Whoa... Well, we don't even have a t.v.,lol.. So don't feel too bad. (there's no cable, cell phone service or anything up here either..this house saw it's first ever phone line when we moved in!) Can you grow any herbs? You get way more bang for your buck in my opinion. My DH thinks anything herbal or organic is a load of cr*p. Just a way for companies to make money off dumb people. Ha! I was going to start sneaking in an order for one herb a month or every other month to start a nice collection but he went out and bought a $30,000 truck (we can't even afford cable) without mentioning it to me first. There goes that plan!!! Now FOOD is going to be a difficult thing to obtain. Candace
Guest guest
I'm not sure which herbs will grow in MN and/or if it's too late to plant them now!?! I wouldn't know where to start. 30 thou for a truck?? That's exactly what I'm thinking. If I pay that much for anything I'd better be able to live in it. Guest guest
I don't think it's too late for you..I'm not sure of your planting zone. You are probably zone 5 or 4 and I don't think the season really gets going until late May or June anyway for you. Now is probably a great time to sow some seeds. You could get those little peat pots from walmart or cell trays. A pack of seeds can be less than a dollar and you save your seeds year to year . Of course you need to make sure they are not genetically modified , non hybrid and Monsanto hasn't gotten within a hundred miles of them. But they'll tell you most of that on the packet.:-) Um, yeah.. I agree, something for that much better have a built in potty and a sink ,huh?:-/ Karen :-) Candace Podratz [CandaceAndBrock]Thursday, May 13, 2004 9:52 AMherbal remedies Subject: Re: Herbal Remedies - herbs for depression/ Candace:-) I'm not sure which herbs will grow in MN and/or if it's too late to plant them now!?! Guest guest
Anyone know a good site to say which herbs can be grown in which states? Doc mentioned wild harvesting echinacea in this neck of the woods. I guess that's one thing that can stand the cold Winters. Other things, like ginger root, I think have too long a growing time required and would probably die in the fall/winter. Anyone? Guest guest
You might try Seeds of Change website? Not sure if they have specifically plants by zone, but on each plant/seed they list the zone. Also they have a board if you'd like to join and then you can ask if someone else has that info. Guest guest
Hi Candace, These are the ones I bought seeds from this year. The prices at rareseeds were super! They usually will tell you where, zone wise , the seeds will grow best , when to plant, harvest and such. Have fun.:-) Karen http://www.richters.com www.rareseeds.com http://www.johnnyseeds.com/ may all your bugs be beneficial!
