I just got back from Sears along w/ a Sears Kenmore water distiller.

I haven't taken it out of the box as of yet but it appears it has a

carbon filter in it. I hope I bought the right one! I really don't

want to be nickle and dimed w/ filter replacements but looks as tho

I will be (still have to unpack it and read up on it). I was

pleasantly surprised tho - regularly 129.99 and when I got to the

register I got 30percent off!!!! so I paid about 80.00 for it. It

does 3 gallons a day. Someone else on this list has one of these;

Where are you ? Talk to me :)

Hi Pam, I have it too, got the idea from Mary O. and we really like it. It sure leaves a lot of junk in the bottom of the cooker part when it is done. The water tastes great. I don't know about the chlorine and carbon part. Anyone? Also, if I remember right, Doc mentioned recently that he has several of the Kenmore going most of the time. Also, as suggested by Mary and I have found it to work well to clean it too, is to put distilled vinegar in it and let it sit for about ten minutes, rinse and you are good to go again. I have to clean ours every 2-3 gallons.

Pam....The water distiller that I have does filter through charcoal as well.

Chlorine evaporates from water in from 24 to 48 hours . Maybe someone else

knows if this is a reliable method to get it out . I know that it is

reliable for fish and water gardening . I

would use the plastic jugs if I needed to...Mary O

So I am

back to my original question about the carbon filtering. I think in

the long run it would be farrr cheaper to (at the end) pour the

finished water thru a homemade carbon filter.

Pam, I have the 625-344810 model. In my opinion, I think it would be fine to run the distilled water through a homemade carbon filter, as long as you rinse the filter first, so that you are not drinking the carbon that first comes out of a carbon filter. I use the carbon filters that have to be purchased separately and fit into the lid of the carafe. Someone else here may have some better info. Being it is Mother's Day, there probably are some people on the list who won't see your question until tomorrow.

Cool Phyllis !! What model do you have ?

I just got mine set up (EXCEPT FOR ONE THING (ROAR) !!! God Durn

it - there is no carbon baggie thingy madoogle !!! I'm PISSED. It's

running anyway w/o carbon. Not sure what do do. I went all the way

the heck out to Washington Square/Sears to get this thing. So I am

back to my original question about the carbon filtering. I think in

the long run it would be farrr cheaper to (at the end) pour the

finished water thru a homemade carbon filter. They wanted 8.00 bux

for replacement filters, didn't look but maybe 3 filters to a box !!

Can everyone see how cheap I am ??

Anyway, I just might return this one w/o the caraf and tell them to

give me a new one !@!! Cuz this one had no caraf. OMG that would be

so bad of me Huh?

Hi Pam, I have one of those, and I hear Doc has SEVERAL. :)

I paid $90 for mine, still a deal, but you got a better deal! Good job!

The filters seem to last quite a while, relatively speaking. I guess it depends on what your expectation is. I have the "Deluxe" distiller and it has a display which tells you when to replace the filter, which is very nice. We can make 1 gallon of water every 3 hours, so if we're home at all the right times, we can keep that thing purring and make many gallons of water! :)

You've probably set your distiller up already... how's it working for you so far?

My husband has cleaned ours with just lemon juice. We had some extra after setting up the Lemon Egg and he just poured it in the distiller, and it turned out beautifully! :)

When I got mine the carbon filter was missing as well. I told them and they gave me one free. I don't remember the replacements being 3 to a box, though. I think it's just one. (Time for me to buy more, it's been too long!)

Kelli,

It's about half way thru it's first cycle/gallon, shoot should've

timed it !. I will throw this water out as they recommend. The fan

that constantly runs to cool the unit will take some getting use

to. My condo is about 800sq ft, and my kitchen is in the center so

needless to say I can hear it clearly wherever I am. A minor

thing, but wasn't expecting it to purr either. Guess I got a new

roommate !! so to speak.

What steps did you use to clean it. Did you turn it on at all and

run some water/lemon juice thru a distilling cycle/let it sit? or

what???

I scrutinized the box it came in, looking for some mention

of " carbon filter not included " but no such words. The instruction

manual given is the same given for my basic model and the one w/ the

timer/computer stuff. The manual says carbon filter included (for

that model). You'd think they would've said something, I'm gointo

call the 1800 number and voice my opinion about that. Shoot I went

all the way back out there (it's away, another town from me) w/ gas

prices 2.30 plus a gallon now. Because I didn't get a carbon filter

which are only sold one per box at 7bucks a pop. RIPOFFFFFF

I bought mine here:

http://www.elixa.com/distiller/index.html

for $129 shipping included. I really

like it. The fan noise is noticeable but only in the kitchen. However,

I’ve noticed recently, now that it’s getting warmer, it puts off a

lot of heat. So, it’s back to my RO for the summer.

I have to say, I’ve had so many bad

experiences with Sears that I just won’t buy anything from them

anymore. It was tough for awhile since they were the only ‘ballgame’

in town. But now, with the internet and BestBuy, I don’t miss them and

the constant hassles at all.
