Guest guest
Hey, does anyone know if the 5 gal water jugs that these water supply places use relatively safe to store water in? I know plastic in general isn't a good choice but when it is the practical and or only choice.............. I am keeping an eye out for a glass one in clean shape to use instead but until than. Another question: After distilling water, (i read) that the chlorine is still present after distillation (if my memory serves me). So my question is - if I than take another step to filter the water thru charcoal, well does anyone have any useful inexpensive methods for acheiving this? Guest guest
I do think that the charcoal filter after distillation does get rid of chlorine, if you've got the right size filter for the amount of water you're running through it. The Sears distiller I use has the charcoal filter built into the top of the carafe it distills into. Since we're on the subject... I was wondering if anyone knew of a resource for a large container for storing water. I'd like one at least 5-10 gallons, or even more, with a spigot. Right now we're using a combination of refilling the 1 gallong plastic jugs or the one gallon glass jugs we get apple juice in. I'd rather dump the distilled water into a large container and be done with it. I've googled this, but can't find anything. Probably wrong keywords, as EVERYTHING is out there somewhere! LOL! Anyway, if you have ideas, please let me know. Guest guest
Kelli, we are thinking alike. Yes, the sears kenmore has replaceable charcoal filter that is in the lid of the caraf, it needs to be replaced every so many gallons. I drove back out to sears and got another distiller. The model I have didn't/doesn't come w/ the filter (purchased seperately at 6.99 for one filter, OUTRAGEOUS!! A tiny filter for 7 bucks, what a rip off!!! I am currently running water thru it now, noise little thing it is. I have currently been purchasing 2 - 5 gal. containers thru a water store, Water To Go. I plan on running water until it fills the 5 gallon blue water jug and than putting it on my crock, I like room temp water and my crock is just that a crock. Than I will fill my other 5 gallon container as back up and just work it like that. I'm most definately goingto go buy some charcoal from somewhere ??? Hmmm, I know people that sell fresh water fish supplies sell charcoal, ya think that would suffice ??? ( i have no clue how charcoal is graded) ANYONE???? I acquired my jugs thru a water store, they will sell you them. Or you can buy some of there water in the jug and maybe they will just ask for a small deposit on them, that may be cheaper than asking to buy one (they may charge you more) Pam I was wondering if anyone knew of a resource for a large container for storing water. Guest guest
Actually, the charcoal used in these filters is activated willow charcoal and is safe to take internally. This is what is in the IC#2, so a little in your water won't hurt at all, and should be beneficial. This "post" carbon filter's main purpose is to put a little taste back into your water as pure distilled can taste pretty flat. I change my filters about once a year (if I remember ;o), and it's not really that big a deal.
