Hi,

everybody!

I know

there’s some Doulas on list and have a question for you. Do all

doulas believe that infant vaccinations are bad? The reason I ask is

because my daughter in law will have doulas in attendance at the birth of my

grandson OK it’s her baby LOL. I was surprised when she didn’t

know what vaccines would be given etc. and has not decided against

them. I’ve given her info but she is not responding with any

interest. She will be having the baby in a medical facility. Maybe there’s

more then one meaning to the word ‘doula’. Please enlighten

me. Thanks.

The word Doula comes from the Greek. It means a "servant" or "slave". A doula is a support person for the mom & dad. She gives the pregnant couple information during their pregnancy, and she supports and gives suggestions during labor and birth. Sometimes she might be very hands-on, sometimes not~ it all depends on what the laboring couple need and ask for.

Different doulas do things differently... but, it's pretty much accepted with all of them that they are not "allowed" to push their own beliefs about Anything (natural birth vs epidurals, vax vs non-vax, episiotomy vs tearing, breast vs bottle, etc etc etc). She is there to support the couple's needs. Period. She isn't to get inbetween the medical staff and the couple~ the couple have to make their own decisions and stick up for themselves. Hopefully, if the doula has done things properly during the pregnancy, the laboring couple will be prepared for nearly every situation they may run into in the hospital.

Sooo... if your daughter's doula offered information on vax to your daughter & her husband, and they weren't interested, she'd drop it.

If I were you~ I'd keep sending info to your daughter... maybe you'll "plant some seeds" of doubt in her... At the very least it'll spark some discussion at some point! lol

No, all doulas do not believe vaccines are bad. I personally do, but I know a lot of doulas who have gotten all their kids vaccinated.

Peace and happiness,

Well,

of course. I first heard about them on the vaclib newslist so thought they

were only non-vax oriented. But this makes more sense. Thanks for the

explanation.
