Guest guest
My everclear 190proof tinctures are very strong. My point is I recently noticed in my mouth - was that the 190 proof is tolerable in my mouth, IF I have zero sugar in my blood. I made a cake for a friends b-day here the other day and was munching on the fudge frosting and orange curd, OH and finishing off the cream. My real point is that 190 proof on a system that has sugar in it is INTOLLERABLE to the mouth, the tincture that is. OMG talk about ON FIRE!!!! I don't know but I found this a berry ineresting think. Anyone have an explanation ??? or am I just weird ??? Pam Hey Bonnie... I notice the difference in mine between reg vodka and everclear... maybe it a " mind game " but I don't think so.. my tinctures seem more potent in the everclear... or is it they have a stronger taste to me.. I always use glass jars for all my tinctures. I didn't know vodka came in plastic???? Guest guest
The stronger %age of alcohol will pull better and faster up to a certain point. This is especially true for roots and barks. But this is limited in practice. You do not need over 100 proof for a good tincture regardless of the herb. Also, the amount of time you let the tincture "perk" will also pull more of the biochemicals out. Love, Doc PS. Just remember, the stronger the alcohol you use, the more chance you have of giving an alcohol toxicity to your liver if you're using large dosages. The way to handle this is to place your tincture into a cup of hot tea to evaporate the alcohol. I had one client who was buying a ton of tinctures, and this got me very curious. Through questioning I discovered that she was an alcoholic, and had substituted her beer and booze for tinctures. I think her reasoning (though crazy) was that she could feed her "habit" and yet be healthy about it. I had a good laugh about it, and then promptly chewed her butt off and set her straight. Violet Syrup: (for sore throats, relieving coughs and bronchitis, to help bring up phlegm and it also works as a soothing digestive tonic.) Take 5 cups of fresh violet flowers and 1 cup of fresh violet leaves, cover them with 5 cups of boiling water (filtered or distilled) and cover with a tight lid. Leave on your counter for 24 hours. Stain the plant material out and either use a press to get all the liquid out of the plant material or if you don't have one, take small amounts in your hand and squeeze them till they have no more liquid in them ( the best stuff comes out of that). Put the liquid in a pot and warm up, but make sure it doesn't boil. Add 4 cups of honey (raw honey). Stir until the honey is dissolved. Bottle and store in a cool pantry. Use 1-2 Tablespoons at a time. Bonnie Rogers
